“War Wolf…War Wolf…hey, War Wolf.”
Spectra’s voice wasn’t enough to get War Wolf’s attention, but a steelight pebble ricocheting off her shoulder was. She huffed and lowered her binoculars. “What?”
“Check this out.”
“I’m busy. One more rotation and I’ll have the guard patrol pattern figured out.”
“Come on, it’ll just take a second.”
The wolfess sighed and turned around, finding her partner and the feline hero she’d invited to the stakeout huddled together on the rooftop. “You have enough trouble paying attention on stakeouts without bringing along strays to distract you.”
“Hey, I resemble that remark!” the hero in question playfully objected. Slipstream, one of the Colmaton Bureau’s newest agents, was a wind-manipulating panther who’d managed to impress and irritate War Wolf in equal measure…though the latter was set to take a commanding lead. “Take a look, Big W. If you’re not a hundred percent impressed, I’ll eat my blindfold.”
As Spectra giggled, War Wolf folded her arms across her chest. “What is it?”
The two huddling heroes nodded at each other and both focused on the air between them. Slipstream summoned a small tornado that whipped up only a slight breeze on the rooftop while Spectra formed a tiny cow figurine made out of steelight and tossed it into the vortex, where it spun and swirled round and round. “Cow in a tornado!”
War Wolf narrowed her eyes.
“Hang on, it gets better.” Spectra summoned a tiny farmhouse and tossed it into the tornado as well. “Wizard of Oz!”
War Wolf’s expression didn’t change.
“Hit her with the big guns, Nightlight,” Slipstream said, intensifying his concentration on the mini natural disaster.
“Here we go.” Spectra cupped her hands, a purple glow emanating from within, then flung a dozen small steelight sharks into the vortex. “Sharknado!”
They both looked with eager smiles for War Wolf to applaud or smile or give an impressed nod or do anything except continue to glower like a masked gargoyle. After a few seconds, they gave up and the tornado evaporated, along with the miniature steelight pieces.
“Can I at least get some ketchup first?” Slipstream asked.
War Wolf rolled her eyes and turned back to the ledge to continue her surveillance. “Did you tag along to practice your tricks or do you want to actually use your powers for a purpose?”
Slipstream rubbed his hands together and walked up behind her. “Just say the word and that gang hideout will be a wind tunnel.”
“Good.” The wolfess pulled her grapple gun from its holster and fired it across the street, the steel hook latching onto the stone ledge. “I’ll get in position by the skylight. Spectra, you take the back door. On my signal, fire up a gale to scatter them and we’ll go in.”
“Gotcha.” Slipstream winked at Spectra and added, “Here ya go, Big W, lemme give you a push.”
With that, he delivered a solid, resounding smack to her synthweave-covered ass.
Time froze. Dead silence fell.
“Oh, mo Dhia," Spectra gasped in Gaelic, performing the sign of the cross with a look of horror on her face. “Are you suicidal?”
Slipstream’s amused smirk lasted only as long as it took for War Wolf’s head to slowly swivel his direction, putting him right in the crosshairs of her blazing eyes and grinding teeth. He shrank back, his eyes widening in an attempted innocent look. “Um…uh…have I ever told you how beautifully your breasts stretch that unif—HURK!”
The gloved hand that shot out and clamped around his neck cut short the ill-advised compliment.
“Only making it worse, Slip,” Spectra commented.
But the panther coughed and hacked and at last managed to croak out, “Worth it.”Art by

He'll bounce back from this.
Great little story that went along with this piece too.
What a trooper, he certainly goes all in for the joke!
"One sec, hold mah beer!"
"Hey, are you talking to me!?"
"C'mon, I've done this a million times!"
Plus you know Spectra would be laughing if it was anyone else.
Great pic and story!
Smooth move, Slipstream!
(Hope your health insurance is all paid up!)
