Hmm not sure why but it kinda reminds me of an old N64 game I used to play, though for the life of me I can't recall its name anymore.

Hmm now I want to figure this out hehe. My first guess would be maybe "Mischief Makers"? This character's figure plus the rocky background reminds me of the boss fight against Migen Jr. who was a big looming figure that you had to fight. I'm sure there's other things out there but that's what comes to mind, plus I love Mischief Makers hehe.

No I clearly recall mischief makers, Maria was one if the first N64 characters I fell in love with because of her tomboyish attitude.
The game I was thinking of had 4 playable characters was asian themed and the starting character had blue hair.

Goemon! Legend of the Mystical Ninja Goemon. Either that or "Goemon's Great Adventure", Legend was Zelda-like and Great Adventure was side scrolling, but both of them rock. Ah then this guy must have reminded you of the robot fights xD

In English, there's currently a fighting game based off of the 3rd arc available for Dreamcast, PS1, and off of XBLA and PSN for download. So far that's all there is. But in 2014 there will be an English release of the PS3 fighting title that represents all arcs. In my heart I have to say the Dreamcast fighter, even though it only represents one out of the eight arcs, is probably a better game.
