The coyote is found throughout North and Central America, ranging from Panama in the south, north through Mexico, the United States, and Canada. It occurs as far north as Alaska and all but the northernmost portions of Canada.

This particular coyote crossed our path while hiking near the Pinnacles N.M., and was quite content to mind its own business. Since we approached downwind, I was able to get several nice photographs before it bounded across the trail and off into the hills.
