I got my grubby little hooves on a Yamaha DX7. "A what now?" you ask. "Is it a motorcycle?"
No, it's just the most popular early digital synth and the first Yamaha keyboard to use FM synth. So here I am messing around on it, distorting organs and using "bad" sounds in creative ways.
However, if there's one thing I don't have, it's rhythm. Or a drum set. So I grabbed my old junky Casio keyboard that was laying around and picked one of the canned beats that you can speed up to ridiculously unrecognizable speeds. So that's why the percussion is so tinny.
I also tried my hand for the first time at a live, improvised solo. I don't think it came out too bad, considering it was a one-take recording.

Oh, yeah. I'm just beginning to unlock the secrets of programming my own voices. Right now I'm somewhere past the level of getting it to go "pwee" instead of "bwee," but way before the level of "wow man that sounds cool."
I wish I could find that sound clip I made of my casio after it got something spilled in it, too. That was hilarious.

Oh man... I was busy circuit bending my casio before I broke it. (figures) You can get so many fun sounds out of those guys. :D
Let me know if you get stuck on some FM programming stuff. I suck using hardware interfaces, and the DX7 was notoriously hard to program... but I have a pretty good understanding of FM itself.
