Harold Julius Kastanie led a very average life that was becoming way more interesting than he ever wanted. Those that know the imposing 6’1”, 28 year old chesnaught say he’s a big softy once you get past the armor with a kind heart and a cheerful disposition. He’s mature, level-headed, and very responsible with a strong work ethic which makes him a dependable person be it to do a job or to help you if you’re in trouble. He also happens to be a die-hard romantic when it comes to matters of the heart and holds those he cares about very close, tending to be very protective of them due to his past experiences.
Harry (as his family and friends call him) was born the second son of a loving, middle-age couple who raised him (along with his 10 years older sister Chelsea) with love and care. Harry’s parents also taught him several rather old fashioned morals such as the importance of hard work and work ethic along with honesyt and responsibility… morals that were put to the test at an early age since Harry tended to attract bullies due to being large and soft spoken, making him just quiet, timid, and noticeable enough to be a perfect target for kids looking to prove how tough they were. Despite these issues Harry’s school years went rather smoothly since he was a good student who received average to great marks in most of his subjects as well as exceptional marks when it came to gym class and physical activities.
This idealistic life came to an abrupt halt when, during 19 year old Harry’s first year of college, both his parents died in a car wreck. Naturally torn up inside over this tragedy Harry also realized that, whether he wanted to admit it or not, he had barely begun the schooling his parents had wanted him to receive and had no way to afford the rest of it. He could have asked his sister for some money to try and pay for it… but she had her 4 year old son she was raising to afford and he felt guilty asking for handouts like that. So Harry opted for the only idea that made sense at the time and, after changing his class schedule to accommodate it, got as many part time jobs as he possibly could while keeping up his classes… even if his formerly excellent grades suffered from this. He also put his former fighting experience, natural athleticism, and the few classes on combat he’d taken back in high school to use by signing up for any local battle tournament that came around with a cash prize. He didn’t win 1st prize often… but that was fine by him so long as he got high enough to get enough cash to be worth the time invested. With these income sources and cutting back costs as much as he could Harry managed to pay his way through three years of college before he got a surprising offer.
A local fighting league had been scouting for potential prospects from various colleges and had taken an interest in him thanks to his tournament record. While he wasn’t a top tier fighter by any means the league still considered him a safer choice than some of the better fighters at the school since, unlike them, Harry hadn’t done anything stupid, illegal, or otherwise damning that would flag him as the type to cause bad publicity for the league. Unable to pass up this offer Harry joined the league as a second string fighter in their line-up, providing someone for the more popular fighters to beat up on and being in the matches that helped warm the crowd up for the main event. Over time Harry’s natural skill, dopey but earnest good looks, and almost squeaky clean role-model caliber image convinced them to move him up to the main line-up of fighters where he received more publicity and, more importantly, more pay since Harry had suddenly found himself supporting someone.
Harry had babysat his nephew, Chester, for his sister before this. He’d done it quite often in fact since his sister and her husband’s work often took them overseas where they couldn’t take a young child easily, it was during one of these weeks babysitting the 7 year old boy that Chester received horrible news. His sisters plane had crashed and she and her husband hadn’t survived leaving him Chester’s legal guardian since the boy didn’t have any other family to take him. Harry couldn’t hope to replace Chester’s lost father and mother, but he did his best to try and raise him becoming a big brother figure to the boy and doing what he could to help him deal with his grief. It was this that made Harry start actively seeking ways to increase his paycheck from the league and taking on more fights than ever. Any time Harry didn’t spend in the arena or appearing publicly for the league was spent with Chester and trying to help his nephew. Social life for the Chesnaught was non-existent…
At least till about two years ago where he landed a high profile match against another popular fighter, a kangaskhan by the name of Julian. It was love at first sight for Harry… which led to an awkward start of the match since he stood there love struck while she pounded on him to no visible effect, but after this rocky start their relationship blossomed. Unfortunately that blossoming led to something else and Harry soon found out he’d accidentally left Julian carrying his child during one of their nights of fun. Not one to run away from his responsibilities he willing started to support Julian with full plans, if she was willing, to marry her. It was around this time he also began courting other, higher paying leagues that might be interested in hiring him.
Soon enough Harry was not only the father of a darling little baby khan but he was happily married to Julian as the two moved to Viridian where the local league has made them a good offer that’ll help them support their new family… and Harry is rather curious about this family Julian keeps mentioning she has there. He’s quite eager to meet them since beforehand he had no relatives left of his own other than Chester. Yes, things are looking up for him finally…
Miscellaneous Facts:
- Harry is, at his core, an endurance fighter who’s major skill is being able to take one hell of a beating and keeping fighting. Since he never really focused his fighting training too much till his college days he doesn’t have a set style or technique to fight with but he mainly uses strong physical moves to pound at the opponent at close range while using status and defensive moves like Leech Seed and Spiky Shield to whittle the opponent down. If in a bad situation he’ll also use Pain Split to try and reverse it but Harry’s main selling point as a fighter is long, drawn out slug fests.
- Is an absolute sap of a father to Mary and is well and truly wrapped around her little fingers. He’s also a decent big brother figure to his nephew Chester and tries to look out for and help the young chespin who is still dealing with his grief from losing his parents and has decided to follow in his legal guardian’s footsteps to become a battler. To this end Harry has dug up his emergency savings to try and send Chester to the PCA. Julian has mentioned that she has nieces and a nephew there as well so he’s sure Chester will do fine and at least have somebody to look out for him.
- Due to losing his parents, sister, and brother in-law in vehicle related accidents Harry refuses to drive and gets antsy whenever he’s in any sort of vehicle. More so if he knows anyone he cares about will be in a vehicle for any length of time. He tries to tell himself he’s being silly but after having lost so many people he cared about he can’t shake the feeling.
- Wears the large armor that adorns his back constantly, keeping it highly polished and presentable, and only take it off when relaxing in his home. He takes a lot of pride in its durability and strength so he likes to keep it in good shape and since it represents his strength as a fighter and, by relation, his abilities with the league he believes he has to keep it on when in public to keep a good image going.
- Is the responsible one in his marriage to Julian, taking over the cleaning, cooking, and general housework as well as organizing and keeping tabs on the family’s money. He’s been doing it long enough for himself and Chester that he doesn’t object though. In fact the only chore he doesn’t do by himself is caring for Mary since Julian usually handles that… not for Harry’s lack of wanting to try of course.
So I hope you like him and be on the lookout for his nephew Chester in the near future =3
