Today (12/22/13) I went into New York City and road on a subway train made up of vintage subway cars. his is the front of car #100 one of the oldest they have, built in 1931. It was fun to see that there were even time period cos-players on board (future uploads). Plus they left all the original ads in place. For those familiar with NYC the train shuttled between Queens Plaza and 2nd Ave. in manhattan making all stops along the way (not all of these vintage trains do that, they are usually non-stop). After I edit the video I will post a link to it in a future post.

It was fun reliving the days of my youth. hearing the "Rrrrrrr" of those old traction motors and the "tssssh-kaahhh" of the old air brakes when they released the wheels, sitting on padded seats and watching the ceiling fans in the cars. The original wear and tear was on the floor's paint job but otherwise they kept the cars in excellent condition.
One of the more fun times was at the end of one of the fantrips which ended at 59th street. Upon letting off those who were exiting there, the crew announced the train was going to 207th street...in regular service. The looks on the regular subway passengers' faces was priceless as the train pulled into each subsequent stop. (the Christmas shoppers' specials had yet to start running, so nobody was expecting this train to be out and about, and a good many were unaware this train even existed).
I have an O scale version of this that I provided voice-overs for its sound board.
