An NPC from an all-tengu Pathfinder game I'm running.
Talleyrand is rather sad, actually; It'll take a bit of explanation though. My setting revolves around a Fantasy Not!France, Valois. Valois is primarily human, with underclasses of various other races. The most numerous of which are Tengu, their ancestral lands having been conquered many, many years ago. As such, the tension between Tengu and Humans is very high. The humans view the Tengu as uncultured primitives, and Tengu resent them for the years of oppression, but are too set in their ways to rise up.
One day, a middling Human noble got it into his head that perhaps a Tengu's undesirable traits are a result of their upbringing instead of their race. With that in mind he adopted a Tengu fledgling from unknown parentage, using his wealth and influence to raise him as a noble human child would be. Talleyrand, as his adoptive father named him, did take on many traits of humans, including their distain of other Tengu. He was nearly friendless as he grew up, since he was a tengu no matter how he was raised, and human children refused to so much as talk to him. When they did, it was only to play cruel jokes on the "dumb bird". He did not have any contact with Tengu children, being noble-raised, and later in life he would find that he was treated with utmost distain by his own people for his Human upbringing.
When Talleyrand was in his 20's, his adoptive father died of a sickness. Talleyrand, of course, got nothing. Though he was a landed noble, he was still a tengu. He was given a "generous" position as a farming manager in a Valois colony in the newly-discovered continent across the sea, where the worst of both sides of his life followed him. He was hated by the Tengu farmers he lead, and was mocked and looked down upon by the few Human nobles that made the journey.
Plus, the PCs are making his life a living hell.
