To garner future support for Kingdom Fontis, Princess Eflasia had insisted on sending an ambassador to other kingdoms and insisted that it be General Nyxis Pierce, right away. The rose bat rolled her eyes. Eflasia had many representatives and could summon anyone, but after their recent quarrel about how Nyxis's brooding around the castle was unhealthy("No it's not, Eflasia") and how it would help if she took a vacation("No it wouldn't, Eflasia"), Eflasia's final say to deliver Nyxis on this so-called business trip probably wasn't a coincidence. So after some hasty packing("I'm just not presentable without at least ten cravats and cheesecakes, Eflasia") and an airship ride of several hours, she was finally here. Nyxis strode into the grand throne room, with her best smile on for the king.
Was this the king? Save for her princess, the fennec fox was the youngest person she had ever seen on a throne. She stepped forwards, gave a deep bow, and kissed his hand. "Good evening, Your Majesty."
He laughed, a mischievous but honest laugh. "I'm not His Majesty. I'm the prince."
"Oh." An embarrassed utterance, as "Majesty" was a title only to be used for the King or Queen. It would have been more polite to ask him at the start than to have made that blunder; even some of the palace guards in the room seemed to be stifling laughter from how she could have considered such a young individual the king. "My apologies, Your Royal Highness. Is your father away?"
"Uncle." He corrected her again with a laugh. "And yes, he is away, on royal duties for several months."
Nyxis cleared her throat, quickly hiding a split second of confusion on her face. "I am afraid there has been some mistake. Princess Eflasia sent me on a business trip to meet with the King--"
"No, it's just me. And your business is to have some fun while you're here." He smiled that smile more mischievous than Peter Pan's again, pleased that his and Eflasia's letters had gotten the General all the way there without alerting her to their intentions.
The pink bat looked like she was about to protest.
"Lighten up, Nyxis." He grinned, patting her on the shoulder. "And let's go have some fun." He shoved his luxurious cape at a palace guard by the door. Keeping it on would hinder his ability to climb trees and run through thickets and tussle with his big brother.
(How dare he call me by my first name!) Nyxis furiously thought. (Who does he think he is--) She stopped, realizing the irony of her words. As soon as she was out of sight of the throne room guards, she broke into a run to catch up with the prince and whatever tomfoolery he was up to.
"Maybe I do need a break."

So I was one of the winners for
LiL-MAJ's raffle, and I asked for his character Prince Rigel to be included in the image as a thanks to his princely generosity in real life. X'D I've always thought his royal characters were pretty awesome, so to have a story-image with one of them is even more awesome.
And I'd forgotten how much fun writing is. Lil-Maj said that Rigel likes to act silly when he's not actually doing business, so I hope I've kept him in character for you, Maj. XP
