The guy looks happy, but the girl looks pretty catty at being interrupted. There are a lot of rich geometric patterns in this one, and I do these all by hand with no guidelines, so I'm happy when they come out so well. I produce these so quickly I often don't decide on the kimono patterns until I'm in the painting stage. I LOVE her kimono. At this period in Japanese history, kimono patterns were rather understated with outrageously luxurious (and often hidden) details that gave birth to the "iki" or understated cool aesthetic. Rich gaudy kimono were "out", small geometric patterned kimono with outrageously expensive linings, or tiny areas of elaborate dyeing were "in". This was a result of sumptuary laws that drove displays of wealth underground. Acrylic on paper, ACEO size.
