A friend of my wife's keeps four Larchstone Icelandic sheep; Lulu, Emma, Lily and Molly. This friend and her husband were VERY kind and helpful to us when we were 'gifted' with ten chickens. They gave us lots of stuff including an impeccably constructed henhouse that they delivered via trailer and helped us position via their tractor.
Good people.
My wife once showed her friend a series of illustrations I did from Martin of Redwall back in 1995. She liked the cross-hatched pen-and-ink style and wondered if I'd ever use that style again.
Since the sheep were Icelandic and the friend is Tolkien fan, I thought I'd make them Vikings. Sure, Vikings came from Denmark and stuff, but it was either that or make them surreal yet, oddly sexy singers of catchy pop songs or failed investment bankers. But, I digress...
Depicted is Molly (with horns), Lily (with spear), Lulu (behind Lily) and Emma (with shield). I don't know the sheep well enough to get their personalities but, I did know that Molly is in charge (must be her horns that do it).
hand-drawn and inked with Pigma Microns. Original 4" x 6"
