Unlike her brother, Yosh, Winry is quite outgoing and always up to prove herself. Her confidence is unsurpassed and, when challenged by the "Gym Class Hero", Flynn Hoot, a rivalry started that would last all through grade school.
Flynn and Winry often found themselves competing for spots on the school's, sporting teams. Each striving to be the "All Star" for their squad. However, at heart, the two always longed for opportunities to escape their trappings of "Boys" and "Girls" and just have a true contest to see who was the best of the best.
Here, we see Winry and Flynn ready for a one-on-one match of Soccer (Football if you aren't from the United States). Who will win? Wait for the whistle and find out!
AUTHOR'S NOTE:
This picture has A LOT of meaning to it. I started drawing it a mere week before my exploded for the first time back at the end of July 2012.
I had meant to finish this work and, just this week, was able to do so.
As you'd imagine, I'm emotionally attached to this piece for how it shows that, even after all I went through last year, I still picked myself up and saw a project through. Gabby-Gabby-Gaboo!

Actually, my right eye exploded a total of 2x in a period of two days between July 31st and August 1st. This totally blinded me and locked me down in a hospital for over two weeks and trapped me away from my family for over a month.
I was born with a condition known as "Congenital Glaucoma". It is going to eventually take all my sight away. However, thanks to the doctors at UPMC Pittsburgh, I was able to get back usable sight again despite my retina, and other parts, being blown to shreds on top of my optic nerve being decimated, my cornea being shaped like a volcano, and my implanted lens being out-of-place. :)

I'm so happy for you that you were able to finish it! It must feel really good, and it shows just how strong you are to overcome all that you did all this time.
Friendly rivalries are fun. At least, it seems to be that's what this is. I don't know why, but it's a really good feeling to compete with someone like that. I actually had someone like that in 3rd grade, we weren't really friends, but we were rivals, but not in an aggressive kind of way. It was much more nerdy though, we competed in terms of intelligence and who could get our schoolwork done quicker. It was quite motivating, even though he pretty much always beat me.

Now that is what I call a rivalry! He may have won most of the time, but I bet the thrill of the challenge made doing homework feel less like doing homework and more like a game.
Flynn and Winry are definitely positive rivals. They nib at each other LOTS and are ever working to outdo the other. Winry for the sake of being Winry and Flynn over his male pride as a jock.
I haven't written the story, but Flynn and Winry do eventually date. However, Winry gets mad at Flynn over something and opts to go out with lifelong friend, Nishi Gonzales, to the prom. Nishi plays along well and definitely gets Flynn's attention.
They never make it as a couple, but they do bring out the best in each other.
If you will, you could think of them like Ash and Gary from Pokemon. There's no "Hate". Just the idea of 1up'ing. :)

That sounds like a cute story, and I'd look forward to reading it if you ever wrote it! I love stories with cute dynamics like that.
Actually, when you described it, I thought more of Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth from the Ace Attorney series. Because in the early episodes, Ash really did NOT like Gary at all, they were not "friendly" in the least. Only over time did their relationship develop into something of a friendship. On the other hand, Phoenix and Edgeworth have been friends since childhood, and in court exchange in a lot of banter and annoy eachother, but they really do respect and like eachother.

That's a really good point. *Sigh* It has been oh-too-long since I last played any Phoenix Wright.
I got through the first game, minus the "Bonus Episode" and started into the 2nd. Then all these recent surgeries happened and I've been trying to get to a point where I feel comfortable enough to do all that reading.
Did you ever watch the My Little Pony version of Phoenix Wright? It is done AMAZINGLY well and it is fully read to boot! It's 8 hours total, but definitely worthy of the series in every way. The ending is certainly a surprise.

You know don't you think it's kind of cool that it's about perseverance and your whole "eye exploding" incident was all about perseverance? That's kind of weird how the world works that way. Completing it probably wrapped this all up almost neatly, like a chapter in a book.
Sometimes I wonder if it's a big book we're all in, you know?
Sometimes I wonder if it's a big book we're all in, you know?
You know, I have thought of that myself. This is because, every time something awful happens to me, it always works out somehow. Whether it is going into massive debt, feeling like I want to end my life, wondering if I really do have a purpose, etc. everything just seems to "Work Out". Like it was just a plot point to keep the reader's attention as they did efforts to "Character Build".
The "Eye Exploding" chapter has sadly not gone completely away. I have some pretty fierce PTSD I am fighting still. However, in time, I hope for it to go away as other traumas have gradually processed their way out.
Life is about "Moving On" and not ever staying stuck on a single Plateau. Though, being human, we resist change and we need the right characters and events in our lives to nudge us forward. Even if forward is scary as all get out, it's the only true direction we can go that won't leave us stagnant or obsolete.

Thanks you clever squiggle, you. *Flutterhugs*
It makes me happy to get some more Winry piccies up. Being an only child would certainly not make Yosh who he is throughout his years post having a little sister. Especially since she and Nishi are such good pals and delight in pranking the timid, the dino-ducky until he finally starts to learn how to be a much more self-confident quacker.
I need to write more on Yosh, and my other stories. However, I "MUST" finish my Spike story first. Once it is done, I'm hoping to leave Fan Fiction of Ponies behind so I can get down to some real business. :)
Keep up the great work on the Advent Calendar! :)
