Hey there folks! Here's something I should have done a long, long, LONG time ago...
Given you a full body ref of Rose's father, Momma's husband, and Petie's step-dad! So here he is in all his glory... along with how he'd look in his Mega Form which I'm suuuuuuure will NEVER come into play at all 939 *whistles innocently*
Anyway here's his bio so please enjoy =3
James Julafton lived, for all intents and purposes, a perfectly average and normal life. He was born to normal middle class parents and raised with love, kindness, and to have a good ethical and moral grounding along with a good education, work ethic, and sense of responsibility. The first big swerve away from normality and averageness for James was during his first year of college where, while still unevolved and working on what he should do with his life, he was rendered an orphan due to a car wreck killing both of his parents and leaving him with college debts to try and pay back himself along with his next few years of schooling to worry about.
After a period of mourning reality set in and James knew he had to do something to get by. Deciding to make the best of a bad situation James did the first thing he could think of… rearrange his class schedule and get SEVERAL jobs to try and make money to support himself and pay off his debt. He ended up working as a dishwasher and errand boy for several of the local restaurants that stayed open late… along with other methods, namely joining local fighting tournaments that offered prize money whenever the chance came up. James wasn’t a born fighter like some mon but he did have decent skills and so long as he placed high enough to get some prize money it was fine by him. This is how he slowly ground his way through college and between the work and his studies he found precious little time for the rowdy parties, misdemeanors, and other less than savory acts his classmates were getting into.
This continued till graduation day when, much to James’s shock, a pro-league recruiter offered him work as a fighter. When the stunned, freshly evolved, abomasnow asked why the recruiter cited the fact James was a decent fighter AND more importantly that the ice type was dependable and less likely to go out and do something illegal like most of the stronger and flashier fighters they could have recruited. So James ended up working as a low rank battler in a local league, using his salary to try and pay off his remaining college debts while also trying to work on a major in physical therapy since fighting wasn’t how he’d wanted to spend his life. Things likely would have gone smoothly for James save one particular incident involving Mega Evolution…
The league owner had been considering bringing in Mega Evolution as a temporary gimmick to help sell tickets and placed James on researching it. Something that James admitted later he should have been suspicious about. Sure enough once he finished the report it turned out the owner wanted HIM to be the one to test Mega Evolution out and had a Mega Stone and Ring for the abomasnow to do it with. The resulting trial run of Mega Evolution was so disastrous that James swore never to speak of it again and promptly retired from the arena in (mostly self-imposed) disgrace. Rather than get rid of him the manager opted to instead transfer him to work with the league trainers since James had proved to be dependable and well-liked by the staff. Eventually because of the league he worked for being bought out James was transferred to work for a league in Viridian… where he ended up meeting his first wife.
James was still awkward and shy around women at that point despite his size, so a contest champion openly flirting with him was more than he could resist. Madison used her charms on him and they soon married without James ever suspecting she’d picked him as “Something New to Try” rather than for any romantic reason. James began to become suspicious when they had a daughter and Madison’s… less beautiful true nature began to manifest. Despite this and his wife’s attempts to manipulate and bend their strong willed daughter to her whims James loved Rose and doted on her, doing everything he could to keep her happy and healthy. This devotion was partially what kept him going when Madison, finally bored with the whole family thing and Rose’s refusal to be bent to her will, divorced and abandoned him with no warning or fanfare.
What followed were dark times for James and his daughter… but through hard work and perseverance (two things that never failed him before) they came out better than ever with James finally meeting someone he loves who loves him back and gaining a whole new family in the process. Even if his new step-son refuses to have anything to do with him.
Miscellaneous Facts:
- James is well known and well respected in the league he works for, helping train, coach, and supervising the recovery of a good portion of their fighters. Particularly the rookies since they tend to do the crazier/stupider stuff that leaves them in need of recovery or supervision. Due to being friendly, helpful, and good at his job the other trainers and fighters like him… and just try to put up with the fact that, given the chance, James will happily spend several hours rambling about his kids, how cute his youngest daughters are, how proud he is of how strong Petie’s getting, and of course everything about Rose since he’s been bragging about her since she was born.
- Due to the research he had to do when he was younger (and the research he did after the “incident”) James is actually an expert on Mega Stones and how they work… in theory at least. He hasn’t touched one since the “incident” that made him give up fighting and has refused to talk about what happened.
- Actually feels really guilty over how Petie hasn’t warmed up to him at all and is constantly looking for a way to try to get his step-son to give him a chance. So far Petie still doesn’t like talking or spending time with him but James doesn’t give up that easily and is sure, given time, Petie will warm up to him… and no that isn’t an example of ice type humor.
- Actually doesn’t have many hobbies due to having spent so long focusing simply on making ends meet and is trying to pick up a few new ones, like reading some of his wife’s books for example.
- Has found that Momma is an absolute sucker for massage (one of the techniques he also uses in his work) and enjoys having an excuse to rub his beautiful wife’s body… though he has more tact then to admit that in public.
- He sees Jules a little likes Rose was when she was four… they’re both bouncy, eager, hyperactive, cheerful, and while he likes the little riolu he always has a nagging feeling he’s just one bounce away from knocking all the pictures off the wall at once (something he still hasn’t figured out how Rose managed when she was little).
- Actually has perfected a method of dealing with heatwaves and the fact he’s an ice type covered in thick, heat causing fluff. He’s master the art of using a controlled Snow Warning to regulate his temperature WITHOUT causing an unneeded snow storm… though he’ll admit it took him about 4 years after he evolved to finally get it right.
