This actually reminds me of a movie I saw where the dad and his son got into a car accident and they both went to heaven, the son decided to be an illusion in his 'painted world' because that was his heaven he was an artist til life and til death, but he never knew it was his son that was emulating his favourite painter/artist :3 until mid the end.
