The muzzle blast would be enough to scramble his brain, even if it fired .357 Magnum. Even more so if it fired the full-blown .50 Action Express.
I would hope he wouldn't be holding it at his head then XD that would SUCK
I don't think he'd feel a thing if it went off.
Also, I cannot think of a magnum handgun other than the Desert Eagle capable of semi-automatic fire. The Mateba Auto-Revolver is still considered a revolver, but it has semi-automatic characteristics.
I prefer 10x25mm Automatics, because of its high kinetic energy and momentum per shot (close to .357 Magnum). So for me, I'd like a Colt Delta Elite (sexy pistol) or a Glock 20SF (tactical service).
