What is she? Quarter Horse? Paint? Appy?

Well, obviously there's no genealogical record, the conditions we rescued her from were...distressing. but from her looks a quarter horse paint is the best guess. she didn't really fill in like QH though so it could be some mish mash of arab, qh, tb even though she's short.

Ah okay. :) When I read that you said she was rescued, I wasn't sure if you knew her history or not. She sure is pretty, whatever she may be! I'm glad you all got her out of a terrible situation. I'm sure she was grateful!

She didn't really know. The short of it, she was foaled and left for dead as her dam was taken away (presumably sold) hours after hitting the ground. The sheriff deputy just happened by serving the owner with an unrelated warrant, saw what appeared to be a dead foal being chewed on by dogs. She moved and the deputy rushed over and got her to a vet, and the ranch got her from there. Being a horse person you know how bad that situation is. She likely never nursed from her ma even once! we built a simumare. rugs and such and a nipple as close to a mares belly as we could. and for weeks the ranch caretaker ( bless him and his family) fed her by hand with synthetic colostrum milk every 3 hours, 7 days a week for weeks until she could eat grain. Vets gave her about 10% chance of surviving. but here she is 5 years old now I think! It's why we named her Holly, after Holly Holm a female MMA fighter native to New Mexico.
I was there when we went to get her from the vet when she stabilized. so tiny and bandaged from where she was being gnawed on. but she was bright eyed and curious, oblivious to anything awry.

Wow... What a scary situation. Good for everyone who was involved to have gotten her out of such a situation. She's very lucky. So often they don't make it that young when something like that happens. So glad Holly had a happy ending!

yep! thanks terrible the there has to be rescue operations around for critters, but redeeming that there ARE rescue operations for critters...

I must agree with you on that one!

Sometimes the ones with the roughest starts seem to end up the best to have. Hopefully that's the case for somebody with her.
