I got to thinking 'cause of the closeup there, that in Herman's world the beauty standards are unconciously aimed toward the "human ideal": Shorter muzzles, finer fur, etc. Herman, with his long muzzle, big ears and coarse fur should be considered ugly. But such is the power of fame, that guys are trying to imitate his "rugged style".

Very well thought out. Herman's influence on the beauty standards could also manifest itself in hairstyles, think a hybrid of the hippie mane and the mohawk (the latter was invented by the mohawk tribe to make it more difficult to scalp them, so this aspect would fit very well) - the end result would look less like an orderly row and more like a porcupine - it would both be a good equivalent to the "Don't Thread On Me" Rattlesnake and the kind of group affiliation mark that can be easily disguised with a bit of hair gel or a hat.
