Well..erf...40k has tons of cultural influences in it's universe so that's a very broad subject. Halo? Eh..never followed it really.
It's a combination of the old WW1 Prussian army officer uniform style, British, and the Spanish army during the war of 1936. with a few of my own flairs in it.

:3 Thanks, sorry if I kinda jumped at ya there or might've seemed that way, I just get/hear the 40k link alot from people. I love 40k, don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of the novels, the artwork, and the universe itself (not according to the latest changes though), but the fact that alot of the looks from 40k (I'm assuming you're referencing the Imperium of Man) come from real world influences.
Anytime :3 I'm a 40K fan here myself, although the newer stuff is admittedly annoying. And the main reason I got that from this was because the fist symbol in the BG is used by both the Imperial Guard and the Halo Insurrectionists. It's a pretty powerful symbol that's bound to get used a lot, and I can definitely understand your frustration with similarities (if another person tells me that my Sabrina character looks like Krystal, I'll explode). Interesting character, too :3
Thanks, also I forgot to mention the Lyran Commonwealth (which became the Federated Suns for a time and then the Lyran Alliance) was also another factor. Particularly as the armored gauntlet (which is what that is), was the symbol for House Steiner, the Lyran's ruling family.
