Almost the exact same happened with my cute charm male Skitty. I was trying to get a modest eevee(caught a bunch of random female eevees) and I was trying to run away from hordes of female houndours and couldn't run away from female hawculas. So instead I TRIED running away while they hit my skitty(sometimes barely surviving) and they get cute charm. And yes even with cute charm I still sometimes couldn't run away the hawculas and they managed to sometimes faint my skitty. =_=; Or just don't do anything and sometimes don't let me getaway when they DO NOT do anything.
