There's where magic and mad science differ: in my lab, I have a multiversal portal of my own design. One that I specifically made programmable: that way, I can tune in on different frequencies of whichever universes I want (sure, there is still some aspect of randomness, but that's only when tuning into a different universal frequency for the first time...). When it comes to magic, it seems that it's a lot more random in general (at least in terms of summoning and portals).
