I had a hard time discerning the differences between ostrich and emu skulls just by looking at images, but now that I own both species, the differences are very clear as far as shape and of course...size.

wow I had no idea they looked like this under all that skin and feathers. I thought the beak was solid.

Nope, most bird beaks aren't solid. Chickens, turkey, ptarmigan are just a few species that don't have "solid" beaks like say, a toucan or kingfisher
