Sometimes an inner voice takes on the role of the protector, guiding us towards the knowledge and realizations we need. Other times they speak ill, filling our hearts and minds with doubt. They save us from the silence, with their constant nagging reassurance of their presence deep within our minds. Without them, the world would be so desperately dull... I don't much care to think of it. Some may label them a madness, but in truth that would only come in their absence. I have grown to rely on them, their presence... Their thoughts within my own.

Motzen and Matsariel, the personification of intrusive thoughts and inner conflict, taken the form of crows. These little ever-present pests follow Nim and Roderick around, sometimes visible to the world and other times within them. Whether they are good or bad is up for debate, but so used to their presence are they, that the two could not imagine a world without them.

These two play quite the important role in the puppytwins' story, often helping to shape events and lead the two where they might not want, but need, to go.
