I know that the name "Githyanki" was swiped from a George R.R. Martin novel (in which the critters are long-extinct and apparently not humanoid at all). Still, I find it amusing that a British teenager in the 1980s would have the "Yanks" be expansionistic, militaristic, evil aliens. I'm sure it wasn't a conscious choice of naming convention.
