Chapter 7: The Gerna
The sun rose on the earth, and Kuusco was awake and ready for their departure. She entered the cockpit to see Flint and Sierra on the couch. A smirk quickly grew on her face as she quietly approached them.
“GOOD MORNING!!!!!”
Flint and Sierra shot up and stumbled to a stand out of shear terror and surprise.
Kuusco folded her arms with her usual expression of accomplishment, “Glad to see you two awake.”
Flint panted and crouched over to catch his breath, while Sierra nervously raked her hair.
“What was that for!” Flint snapped when he could speak.
Kuusco turned and walked toward the window, “What was what?”
Flint stumbled with words, making only vocal sounds until he gave up trying to argue, as Sierra just walked off to her bunk. Flint sighed as he watch her leave, then he turned to Kuusco, “Well that worked out.”
“What did?” Kuusco replied as she activated the coffee maker on the control room.
Flint rolled his eyes and followed Sierra to the bunk. Meanwhile Kuusco sipped her drink and scoffed to herself, “Cubs.”
Sierra left her door open, so Flint leaned against it. She sat in her bed, thinking deeply.
“Whats the matter?” Flint asked.
Sierra shook her head, “Just startled thats all.”
“You don't seem startled.” Flint replied as he walked to her bed, “You seem worried.”
Sierra tried to hide her face, “ It can't say.”
Flint sat down, “Why not? It doesn't matter now.”
Sierra looked up at him wanting to say something, but turned her eyes to his foot.
“Is that....a fake foot?”
Now flint became nervous. He tried to hide it by tucking it under his other leg, “It's..... it's uh....”
“I'm sorry.” Sierra replied.
Throughout all the ship, “All right you young ones! Breakfast ends in ten minutes, The SCRiD don't need to be cooking too much, and After breakfast We ship out!”
Flint rubbed his stomach, “Yeah, I am kinda hungry.”
Sierra nodded, “Ok! I'm not! I'll stay here.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah”
Flint stood up and walked away leaving one glance at Sierra. He sighed and continued his way to the mess hall.
Flint entered to a table of things he never seen before. Yellowish white fluff and red strips of meat. The smell alone was enticing. He was accompanied by Jakar and they sat ready to eat. Six seconds and before the first bite Kuusco blared on the intercom, “Breakfast over, we leave in....NOW!!!!”
Immediately the ship lifted up and thrusts forward flinging the food all over Flint and Jakar as gravity shot them back to the wall.
The Ant took off speedily and was being followed by police cruisers. Though comparably small to the Ant the police cruisers had an advantage as they packed weapons. They did circles around it firing beams in an attempt to shut it down by deactivating the engines. The Ant flew majestically straight up, and soon stalled and then to a backward plummet. The cruisers succeeded in disabling the engines and the ship was falling toward the ocean.
Kuusco held on to the control panel as gravity lifted her. With all her strength she reached for a switch. Finally in her grasp she flicked it over and over.
The Ant let out a burst of its massive engines. Their thrust pivoted the whole ship to level it with the ocean, but it landed in the water creating a monstrous wave. The engines died.
Kuusco picked herself off of the ground. Her body was sore from the crashing around. When she finally got to her feet, she repeated the flicking on the switch.
The Ant's engines sputtered as the cruisers pulled up to board. The officers readied their metal cutters. The thrope assistant was to do the dangerous work.
Then out of sheer miracle the Ant's engines roared to life, and the Ant was moving once again.
It hovered over the water forcing massive waves to rise and push back the off-guard cruisers. Shortly after the ant made its second run out of the atmosphere.
Kuusco rested her head on the control panel and breathed. When they left the atmosphere she reactivated the sim-grav and all was normal.
Flint woke with Jakar on top of him, covered in food, and aching all over. He patted Jakar, “You alive?”
Jakar shook his head, “No.”
Flint chuckled and pushed Jakar off. They stood up and stretch and checked for wounds. Fortunately they were just banged up.
Flint shuffled out of the mess hall to check on Sierra. Her bed was all over the place, but she was ok.
“Fun ride?” Flint asked.
Sierra threw a pillow at him, “Shut up!”
The pillow almost knocked him over. Sierra let out a surprised laugh. Either for flint almost falling or the fact she was alive. She didn't know.
“All ok?” Kuusco asked on the comm.
Flint pushed the button on the room intercom, “Yeah. Just bruised.”
“All right! Everyone on deck.”
A short time passed as everyone on deck waited, silently, for anything. Jakar raised his hand and Kuusco looked at him, “What?”
“What now?” He timidly question.
Kuusco shrugged, “We wait....till we are either captured or repaired.”
Kuusco walked over to the easy chair and sat down with a book. She wasn't going to show them she was really worried about her ship. Flint wandered toward the control room and looked at the knobs and buttons, and Jakar followed. Cautiously Jakar leaned in and whispered to Flint, “I think she doesn't have a plan.”
Flint shrugged, “She got us this far I'm sure....”
Then something caught Flints eye. The Radar had a blip. He watched as it turned into a blob that took half the radar.
“Captain! The radar thingy is uh....beeping.” Flint tried to sound calm.
Kuusco stood and waltzed over. She glanced at the Radar and her face exploded to shock,”OH CRAP!!!”
She ran to the intercom nearly pushing Jakar over.
“SCRiD's section 2-5, Code red.”
Flint followed her as she hurried to the door, “What's a code red?”
“We're gonna be boarded.” She replied and then turned to Sierra, “You! Hide! If they find you....” Kuusco couldn't finish, but Sierra knew. Quickly Sierra got up and looked around, “Where?”
“Follow the SCRiD!”
Shortly after a SCRiD unit took Sierra's hand and led her off. Flint took one last look at her then hurried with Kuusco. He wanted answers, “WHAT?!?! Who is boarding us? The police?”
Kuusco shook her head, “Pirates.”
“Aren't you a Pirate?”
“Technically.” Kuusco replied as she led Flint to a room filled with weapons. Flint's Jaw dropped. Floor to ceiling wall to wall filled with weaponry.
“What the f...”
“Watch your mouth!” Kuusco snapped as she pulled out his trench coat.
“Hey!” He replied.
Kuusco threw it at him, “Put it on!”
It was heavier then before, but he did. And then he looked inside and from head to toe his coat was packed with assortments of pistols.
Flint looked up at her with almost a tear in his eye, “But....this is my only coat.”
Kuusco didn't seem to pay attention she was rummaging through her arsenal. She grabbed all the concealable weapons possible. Then she pressed a ceiling panel and the walls turned around. A bed lifted from a hole in the ground and in seconds the weapon room was a casual bunk. Flint stopped and stared. Kuusco pulled him away by his collar.
Jakar was gone, but Kuusco seem to know he was hiding. Only Flint and Kuusco were in the cockpit. They waited as the whole ship rumbled from the giant monstrosity above them. Kuusco looked to Flint, “No firing until I start shooting! Ok?”
Flint nodded. And the doors opened from a serged power. Footsteps and orders were being shouted as they approached the main deck. The door opened to allow two canines with rifles and a large reptile with a steel club. One thing they had in common were all had prosthetics. The one canine with his right arm the other with a right hand and eye, and the reptile with his lower jaw made of powerful steel.
The Reptile barely fit through the door. He had to strain, but his efforts prevailed.
“Where is your Captain?” His voice boomed, with an electronic buzz.
Kuusco stepped forward, “I am.”
The reptile laughed and it vibrated the ground
The giant suddenly stopped laughing, “You'll do then. You are now prisoners of the Gerna! Under the Captain Darc.
Kuusco glanced at Flint with a concerned expression. Flint didn't understand.
She raised her hands and Flint quickly imitated. The canines put cuffs on them and checked them for weapons. They found quite a few and started to hesitate checking any further.
After they checked the prisoners they led them off. Other pirates wandered the area looking for anything. A buzzard approached the reptile. His eye was clawed out and the open vest he wore revealed massive chest scars.
“We haven't found anything Judge.”
The reptile snort, “She's hiding it. Look harder!”
The buzzard nodded and Flint and Kuusco were led off to board the Gerna.
