I'm a bit behind on uploading things here on FA so...
...here is the second piece from my "bust study," which is pretty much as it sounds. I'm focusing on painting just the bust to get myself to slow down a bit and stop feeling quite as scatter brained while painting larger images. Not sure when that started happening exactly but it was making painting rather unenjoyable and painful. The quality was also suffering.
The main thoughts behind this one is that the horns aren't really horns but long spines that come out and could in theory be ever so slightly movable, kind of like feathers on a bird or fins on a fish but more limited. Instead of the usual nostrils it has pitted ones like a viper. It'd be located in rather wooded and grassy ecosystems so it made since to make it a earthy green with some touches of brown in there. Smooth scales that have really no specular property to them making it look more like a hide or skin.
Not sure what exactly the next bust will be, but I want to do a couple with short fur, long fur, human, smooth shiny scales (think skink), maybe slimy like a fish out of water, and something with a rough texture. Which of those I'll actually do, not sure. Which will be next, also not sure. I'm also balancing a few other projects so we'll see.
