During the Emperor's great experiment, one of his children ends up being a girl. Oops. It happens. At least he doesn't have a wife to worry about (well, unless you count the countless bastard offspring he has on multiple worlds*) so there's no worry of child support.
The incubation pod fails or is damaged when Horus inexplicably pops up in his own past and opens the pod to have a look*. The life support systems overreact to this and proceed to not only heal her, but upgrade her. Then all of the Primarches are lost among the stars.
Some time passes, and she is found by a man named Aison, while he was surveying a large portion of land. He had been sent to the world to help terraform it, and was told that the area was empty. He was rather confused at finding a baby inside of a strange pod (imagine the ff7 gene tanks from the intro) but didn't really mind the strange technology running through parts of her body, since he was used to seeing far worse modifications coming from the augmented workers and servitors.
In a matter of years (4-6) she was fully grown, with a pale complexion, and instead of hair, she had 6 large wires coming from the back of her head forming a ponytail-like appearance. These were spaced evenly around a strange plug system.
He primarily had his servants take care of the strange child, and she quickly gained interest in all of his mechanical possesions. Her bright eyes beamed every time he got something new for her to take apart and understand. Sometimes she'd even put them back together better than they originally were.
As her age progressed, her mechanical parts seemed to grow as well. Through nanotechnology, or some strange quirk, she ended up being able to communicate and understand technology better with each passing year. She genuinely seemed to be a machine spirit made flesh, but never lost her humanity.
She grew very quickly, and before long Aison found himself wanting to be with her, hardly noticing how little time had actually passed. She thought about it, but after a strange vision, she decided to decline, (insert rest of this part of the story, including the awesome part about the Emperor)
She was given command of a legion that some considered to be cursed. Through various conflicts and accidents (assassination attempts by the High Lords of Terra anyone?) and by the time of the Horus Heresy, her legion was well under strength and most of her forces were decimated in the first wave of attacks.
However, her mechanical nature influenced her chapter, and many of the Blood Prophets actually shed themselves of the imperfect flesh, wanting to be more like their master, and bound themselves to arcane technologies, so they could fight long after many of their allies had fallen. None more so than Sae herself. Her pursuits were well known, though rarely documented because of how absurd they sounded. She took to the hunt of her fallen brothers with a childish glee, at one point even going so far as to steal a Warhound titan to chase Magnus around the planet then known as Dixonious.
Her most known battle, however, was when she had him cornered. Magnus had been elevated into a daemon prince, and sought her out in single combat. Sae had been preparing for this however, and had constructed a walker, featuring the best technologies available at the time. This was no lumbering dreadnaught, or a frail penitent walker, but a strong combination of the two.
The battlefield shook with each blow they swung at each other, neither one willing to give up. Sae had managed to cut off one of Magnus's arms, and he impaled her walker with his sword. Thinking she was dead, he picked up his arm and left to hunt other prey.
Little did he know that she survived. Some say she still lives to this day. Perhaps buried in the vast factories in Mars, striving to make an even better war machine to hunt her brothers. Some even say that her mechanical parts grew ever more impressive, and that she became the core of what we know today to be the Golden Throne; an organic heart amidst unknown ammounts of metal. Only the Emperor knows for sure, and he doesn't say much anymore.
