Pinky's Memories *Part 2*
Pinky - "don't have the heart to live in the fast-lane, all that has past and gone..."
I'm proud to bring you part two of Pinky's Memories, a small collection of random memories as if plucked right from from her brain at the very end.
This marks the beginning of the end, it's a slow process to begin with.. the 5+ years this drawing covers are still pretty good for the ol' girl. I followed the same procedure I did while making the last one of these drawings. Though I have made some notable and welcome improvements, the most noticeable will probably be the kinda smokey/hazy joining of the scenes together...
I think it helps make it look like you're staring into several little 'bubbles' of memories, maybe memories that were significant to Pinky for various reasons, the haze making them look dreamy and like they're floating in a soup of spirit energy or something. : ] The other improvement I made was actually adding simple backgrounds into a couple of the scenes and soft shading them. I think it really helps to draw you into the memory seeing where it actually took place.
Well without more delay, let's start identifying the particular memories here, though they're pretty obvious you guys seem to like my details. :)
--(Descriptions of the panels for those interested)--
Top Half: (1970) Finally the dreadful transition is starting, it's something every appliance goes through with children and Pinky knows it, but that doesn't make it any easier. :( Violet, now about 10 years old, is beginning to leave her child-like mind and become another oblivious adult. The little girl who Pinky would spend hours playing games, reading stories, and talking with, is entering that mysterious barrier and begins to forget Pinky was ever alive.
I imagine it's not something that happens all at once, it's like a slow transition into forgetfulness and ultimately deafness to whatever 6th sense they had. Almost, figuratively, like an onset of dementia or permanent amnesia..I'm sure it's something very hard for said appliance to see happen.
Middle: (1970) Something I wanted to toy around with, for whatever reason to me it seemed like the relationship between household appliances and big machines like cars/trucks seemed..odd in the BLT universe. Like how the main characters simply refer to them as 'cars' almost like a separate racial group. Or how Radio seems totally uncaring for the one car at Ernie's, saying merely "why of course after you!" then runs leaving him to be killed. I know I'm reading too deep into it but it just seems like appliances don't value car lives as much as maybe they do other appliance lives.. I'd be interested to hear your guy's thoughts about it.
Anyway enough rambling, I actually liked the idea of the two 'species' being friends in some cases. Pinky herself seems like the likable social type, I kind of fancied the idea that perhaps she was friends with some of the home's appliances. As Violet finally started to completely fade away, some of Pinky's friends would come out and comfort the heartbroken car, keep her mind off of it with conversation. <: 3 Can you imagine how it must feel? Having someone you love so much eventually become oblivious to your existence? Going on like you're not even there and all you can do is watch? For anyone interested, that round tan thing is a spacy looking 70s TV set, you can see it here: http://www.oldradio.tv/collection/j.....elevision-0016 not sure what the thing in the middle is.. some kind of toaster oven.. but it's got that 70s style wood-grain finish on it. X3
Bottom-Left: (1978) It's been 10 long years, Violet is 18 and a junior in High School. So much time has given Pinky time to except how things are and heal emotionally, accepting her place as all cars in her place have to. Although she's watching from afar, her motherly love hasn't faded on bit and she still feels very protective of her Violet. For whatever reason Violet was never much into the dating game, that is until this bell-bottom hunk introduced himself. Being how she is, Pinky feels instinctual suspicious of him, not that she can do anything about it.
Bottom-Right: (1978-9?) Things appear to work out between the two though. Since the beginning of Violet's junior year Pinky has become her car to use for school and play. Something young Violet dreamed of doing when she was little, driving Pinky, now she finally is. After a long evening date the girl and her now-boyfriend pulls her shiny pink Crown Vic up on lover's-lane and well... nature happens. ^^; I don't know how I should be feeling for Pinky here.. not sure this is a side of Violet she ever planned nor wanted to be there to see.

Been thinking about it a bit. You said you can tell when Lilly isn't in the mood. So it's something more than a mere "as if", isn't it? Or are you not sure about it? I don't mean to poke holes in your world, I'm just genuinely trying to figure it out, and perhaps myself as well.
Finished watching the movie a while ago. The scrapyard scene really was disheartening. The whole movie makes me feel sorry for all the appliances and machines we use. Though I wonder if you saw the backstory of Pinky somewhere or if you came up with it all by yourself (which would be kinda cool).

Well.. yeah. It helps to know the car, having been talking to it and listening for vibes from it, so that you can get used to how that car communicates. Some cars are quiter then others, shy. But I've got the perfect example, its the example I use everytime. You know that feeling you get, where you feel someone's staring at you behind your back, then you turn and see that someone was? Or when you feel that someone's pissed at you about something even though they're acting fine? It's like that. It's kind of like a base 6th sense we all have. The reason I say I'm not sure is because your brain can make you think things that aren't true sometimes. Especially when the car's vibes are so subtle. Sometimes I can feel like Lilly's pissed when really it's all in my head because I figure she WOULD be. It's just hard to filter your own feelings out of it sometimes.
Oh you went ahead and watched it? Good on you. :) I was going to link you to it, but good to see you already watched. But yeah, it really does make you feel bad. I totally came up with Pinky's

Oh and here's something I would recommend. At first just sit in front of the car and talk. Don't reach out and touch it right away, give it it's space. You can even explain this as filler talking if you're having trouble making conversation. Tell it you're trying not to intimidate it or be too forward. But at the same time, while asking if it's okay, try to work your way closer and closer, maybe start with one hand, move to petting, then see where that goes. Treat it as if you're courting the opposite sex. ^^
Aw don't let me intimidate you. <: ] You think I have good social skills? I have friggin' Auspergers!
Cars love to listen to you talk, it's probably the best thing about them, they're someone you can tall all your problems to, all your worries, and you never have to worry that they'll judge you for it. But I understand, piercing unblinking car eyes staring into your soul can be kind of intimidating but perhaps if it bothers you so much that's just subconsciously you feeling his/her presence watching you.
Have you tried yet? What kind of feeling did you get from the car as you talked? Did you feel like there was aversion?
Keep this in mind when you feel you're being boring talking to the car. What else does the car have to do? Sit alone all by itself for hours on end? What if that was you, would you care about what someone talked about if they came up and started talking to you? Or would you just be happy to have the company? :)

It's an old Nissan Sunny 96. Not really mine, it's a family car. But I drive it most of the time.

At this point I'm not sure if I can feel anything, let alone make assumptions on it.

I tried for a while. I'm not sure if there was anything. At least it didn't feel negative.
But I thought so. They probably don't have much to do (though you said their presence doesn't seem to be tied to their body). But you also said some aren't much into talking. I shouldn't feel so nervous talking to something that is not even considered alive by standard definition.

Well like I said, some cars are really really quite or shy, just give it some time and don't for it on yourself. :) It helps to not have any distractions too, so like try to have it quite and nothing else on your mind, see if that helps.
Yeah, I'm surprised you remember that!, seems like they've got a bit of omnipresence going on or whatever. Yeah, don't feel nervous at all, have fun with it! :)

That part about forgetfulness... Depressing as heck, and I can kind of see a similar thing in real life. We as kids believe dragons exist. As adults, we drop these beliefs. There are no badass flying beasts roaring and breathing fire. They live only in fairytales. They're a made-up bullshit.
But there is one thing that survived during that time: it's imagination. I can admit without fear, that I'm one of these grown-ups who still believe, even though these said dragons aren't literal. Why we ALL can't be like this? D:
On a happier note, however...
