I can't really say if there's a story behind this image or not. Inspired by listening to Peter Gabriel's piece, "Secret World" I had the vision of this grounded Vulpine-Centauroid Racing Rocket driver pop into my head. All I can figure is that his rocket was disqualified for some small reason like being a foot too long, or having it's main repulsors too close to the drive. If anything, it's a piece of "New" art (kind of,) and please forgive my minor inking flaws. It's been more than a year since I've attempted anything this complex.

May not have been his fault. Like with anything so complicated, and with so many people working on the same thing, saftey is always an issue. Some tech may have found something wrong during the preflight checks and decided that grounding it would be best till they could resolve the malfunction. :)
You should do a little photoshopping and turn this into an Astounding cover, Roy. I don't know how to describe it exactly but, for me, this one, like all the best covers of that fine old SF magazine have this sense of, foreboding, of anticipation, of a moment in time just before something momentous happens....
The style Be-Bop Deluxe was quite different from the music featured in Cowboy Bebop (which was a good series, BTW). Fronted by rock guitarist Bill Nelson their music was decribed as a prog-rock/glam-rock, but I like to call them the first and only "sci-fi rock 'n' roll band." Their albums included Axe Victim, Futurama, Modern Music and Drastic Plastic. My favorite Be-Bop Deluxe songs include "Rocket Cathedrals," "Maid in Heaven," "Sister Seagull" and "Panic in the World." For some reason your drawing made me think of the group. Give them a listen; I think you'd like them.
