Blue Skies Eventually End
"Once drove a surfer to sunset
There were bikinis and buns, there were weenies
The Ladies just couldn't forget
He'd go, let's go up to Zuma
He'd go, let's go up to Zuma
From Zuma to Yuma, the rumor
Was I had a hand in the way of the land
Get up and go hit the highway"
The first submission of my PG oriented anthro car works. This is all stuff that's been on Deviantart for a long time, but I thought I'd share it with my FA exclusive friends to enjoy. Plus I guess it'd be good to show you guys that I'm capible of more then porn. I suppose this could be considered fan-fiction in a drawn sense. It's fan art, but it's adding new characters and telling it's own story. You really need to read the artist description to know the 'message' of this picture. So if there are any of you guys who don't read them I'll know. XP
One of my favorite movies when I was a little kid, even know as an adult is "The Brave Little Toaster." I love how seriously it takes things and doesn't downplay itself to make itself suitable for kids. Arguably the best song scenes in it was "Worthless" where, if you haven't seen the movie (shame on you), these wrecked cars all sing about memories of their lives leading up to their abandonment in the most pessimistic way possible. All the while they're carried one by one to their death to an automatic scrap-compactor, and yes they actually die.. something you don't see in animated movies that much. It's a very sad scene I think for most of the fans of the movie and I'll leave a link to it for those who haven't seen it by some amazing circumstances.
So to kick off my series entitled "Tales from Ernie's Disposal" we see the first picture for the Woodie-Wagon I've dubbed 'Callie. ' While she's not my absolute favorite car, she does have the most interesting lines I think and the longest screen time, and while all the characters involved are all tragic cases, I noticed something one night that kinda really struck a cord when I made the connection:
Weather intentional or not, I don't think it was, the Stationwagon sounds almost exactly like the artist 'Faith Hill!!' and to make it even more interesting, I first noticed this while listening to her song "Sunshine & Summertime" which is about partying and surfing at the beach. This isn't unusual in the movie though, there are several 'apparent' celebrity impersonations, Dolly Parton, Jack Nicholson, Peter Lory, Little Richard..ect.. but I'm not sure that Faith Hill was really that famous in 1988 to have a cameo XD so I'm going with that it's my own mind.
Here's a comparison for you guys please check it out:

So here's my little message here I guess. If you listen to Faith Hill's song, it isn't hard to connect it with the car character especially since it sounds just like her too. I find myself thinking "wow, maybe this could have been that Stationwagon back in the 1960s before she got wrecked, back when her and her "master" would drive to the closest beach can have some fun in the sun over the weekend. Back when she thought it would always be this way and those sunny days would never end. <: /
I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way, but it makes me kinda sad thinking about how all the cars, heck anything people make, inevitably are fated to be thrown away and forgotten. Growing up with this movie, with the idea that what if they might be alive in some way, it makes it even sadder to me. I mean, this thing serves you reliably for years and what is it's reward for that loyalty? Ya know?.. Especially when thought about with the context of this movie where the 'things' feel horrible if they aren't of use to anyone... eh, forget it I don't know what point I'm trying to get across. 9.9
ANYWAY, if you're still reading by this long XD, I drew this as kind of my interpretation of maybe what that old Stationwagon's life might have been like in the period before the movie. With the help of lyrics from both songs I was able to paint, I think, a pretty accurate picture of her life. In the song she mentions heading out to Zuma which is a beach in California, so I pulled up pictures of Zuma on Google for background reference. I unfortunately couldn't find a space to get hotdogs in the picture haha.. but I did get the whole surfing scene down. Observant watchers will see that I've made sure the large orange surf-board that she was eventually abandoned with is in the scene too.
I wanted the picture to easily be seen as in the same universe as the movie, so I tried to copy the animation style as best I could. This included how the humans looked, how the backgrounds are shaded and the characters aren't, stuff like that. The people I'm surprised came out as good as they did, additively I didn't really want to draw them haha.. but I knew that a big PART of the message here ARE the people. These people were her family, one of them was her "master" but I'll leave that open for you guys to decide which on your own. ;) But yeah, I mean besides the pain of being abandoned, I'm sure she would have missed these people in her life just as much and that's PART of the story here.. that's why I made myself draw them in! It's interesting, the last thing she says "Get up and go hit the highway" which I could interpret as one of her memories, maybe one of her master's friends (Pico?) suggesting that they do that. Maybe on their way to Yuma on the highway is where she got in her fatal accident..
Of interesting note, I didn't even think about it till later in drawing, but if this is the BLT universe that means that radio (which I could totally imagine playing 'Surfin' USA' [link])on top of the Satationwagon's roof is alive too. XD EVERYTHING IS ALIVE!
