Radio?

it is... a FM radio. A day before digital is ever born.

Analog does have its advantages especially when it comes to distance of signal travel.

Its an am/fm radio kit you actually solder and test from Elenco.. ITs therapy for my hands and I enjoyed building this. IT works well too.

Feels like a silly question to have asked, now that I've read around the perimeter of the board and see things like:

"AM ANTENNA" and "AUDIO AMPLIFIER"

Not silly at all, I have gotten about 200 pms and questions about this kit and some have asked to tutor them as they build. I am ok with it, But yeah I love this kit, I may build 2 more before the year is over(deoending on my hands)!

Got it a bit on sale not much.. either way I will build and buy a few more. The instructions are killer easy and they point out exact locations on the silk screen too. (Witch is a plus)

Also note that once this kit and the case is completer all my watchers will be placed in a number poll and the wife will randomly choose a winner to this kit to be fedex/ups/internationally sent to the winner including the book and the daughtor board.

That is such a wonderfull thing you are doing, some one will take care of that for a very long time.

The hope is that they spark the interest in Radio or/and in electronics. If they enjoy it for years or pass it along, It will definitely be a conversation piece.

FM stereo?

There is not enough components to seperate the carrier for stereo seperation.. hi fi yes stereo no.. but its still got a good audio response.. LOUD TOO REAL loud especially with the 5 transistor daughter board!

I am just curious as to what glue you used on the ferrite rod. It looks like some sort of past lol.

Also I am ordering a new Pic kit, so Maybe I can build some interesting radio support chips! [or even my own homebrew]

Its not glie its crayon wax.. I use wax just in case it would need to be retuned, all ya need is a mild hair drier or a shrink gun and warm it up to make it soft.. Its easier to use than glue because I have seen coils on ferrite bars go bad. Changing the ones that are nail polished on is a drag..

Yes She is a screamer lol. I found out when I was tweaking it that the daughter board did not work at all. I was confused I even re traced everything, then I found that I had two transistors, one labeled n8550 and the other n8050 reversed in their places. One was supposed to be in the others place, so I corrected it and man talk about a screamer!!

The Ic is used if you like to headphone listen or to have the longest battery life, The daughter board takes the place of the Ic and gives you 5 transistors of amplification. But it does draw twice the power, but its a trade because it drives the speaker very well.

So its like a car with twin headlights, hi beams to see the critters in the distance or low beams to keep from getting the finger. lol
