back to Japan for the Ghost Whale, or Bakekujira. Sighted off the coasts of western Japan, Bakekujira has the appearance of a skeletal whale and is accompanied by strange birds and bizarre fish, it is reportedly aggressive and spreads misfortune wherever it goes.

I think it was most likely based on a whale fall dredged up by a storm but the concept is fantastic and terrifying all the same.
