I don't know what gimp is...but basically, yea, its the same as my tutorial. The difference is sometimes I use a clipping mask so I can use different colors that you can't get with burn and dodge. The eyes are actually typically about 3-4 times the size of these shown, which I send to the owners of the icon...but theres no point in posting huge icons.

I have no idea what clipping masks are, but I hope Gimp has them or some equivalent, as it sounds like they can be used often to make a good objet d'art into a great one.
