Once the slave a cruel wizard who not only gave the boy a plethora of scars and took his left eye but also cursed the boy as an experiment Tawny escaped his master sometime in his teens. Because of his curse he was hunted and could never stay in one place for long. Eventually a bounty was put on his head.
A noble turned mercenary who had come to collect the bounty instead took him in and taught him to read and write. She also introduced him to basic hand to hand combat skills and archery. After a time and some growing he became her partner although his timid personality means he would much rather follow than lead.
