Kaynus v2 Mask Evolution - Duct Tape to Furred
Well, the mask is very nearly done! The inside of the mouth still needs to be detailed and I'm sure I'll find some touch up things to do after wearing it a few times, but these photos document the process from making duct tape patterns through furring the mask and then trimming it up.
Good golly this is a night and day difference from the first mask I made! There's still a lot of room for improvement, but I'm really happy with how this is coming out, especially for just a second suit. :)

Thanks! :) Yeah, I wasn't sure how the colors would look when I first got the fur (I was so used to the realistic fur in Kaynus v1), but once I started putting them together I really like how much contrast they have with each other and how much more the suit as a whole is going to pop as a result. Between the sculpting work and the fur he's already meeting my goal of being more toony. :D
Thank you! :) I've only been working on the mask in any seriousness over the past two-ish weeks, so before that it was just a balaclava with some elastic rigging (which took most of an evening). I've been dumping a lot of time into it the past several weeks, though--pretty much my entire evenings after getting home from work, and a little bit of time on weekends when I can. I would estimate it's around 30-40 hours of work so far, if not a little more.
¡Gracias! :) I wasn't sure if I was going to like the solid-color fur better than the realistic fur from the first suit, but I agree with you--I think the solid colors really make the coloring stand out more. The brown and gray really blended together too much on the old suit, and for making a toony character that fur just didn't make a lot of sense.
Thank you! For some reason I keep working on anything other than finishing up the mask with the mouth details, ha ha ha.
I'm going to try my best to have the partial done in time for the Thanksgiving meet this weekend, so if you're going to be there hopefully you'll be able to see it in person. :)
