Sitting on a crate, that’s on another crate, that’s on a boardwalk that’s on the ground.

that's on a platform that's part of a museum that is where a depot once was. that at its hight, and before the current one was built, had about five times as many trains in and out of it every day as there even are trains now. and of course in front of you, and down a gangway to the float, a steam boat down through the delta.
back in the 50s, when the unit shop was still rebuilding f-units, and the i-street bridge had someone on duty every shift to open and close it for river traffic, the big steam boat was still running, though it only went about an hour into the delta and turned around and came back.
(that was of course a long time before the museum, that was built in the 80s, when old town was the cheap residential hotels part of town, but it was also before the freeway, when the pocket was actually one of the nicer neighborhoods)
h-office, 19th and r, and the i-street bridge, were all jobs my dad had worked at different times in the early 50s. when i was in second grade.
