Here is a pumpkin carving project I just finished for my Sculpting Class I'm taking. I decided to use Roy in a Mercenary Outfit from Fire Emblem as my face to carve.
Just in time before Halloween too so this turned out quite well. Enjoy :3

It was an art project for my sculpting class years ago.
I would say after figuring out the piece you want to carve and what you want to cut out, I would say the same time as you would normally carve a pumpkin if it's simple. Though this took a few weeks to plan, but the carving would take two hours after drawing the lines on the pumpkin, but this has been years ago so it's hard to say.
