Ok,
This is the final stretch for the AM side of this kit, The tuner knob, varable cap is soldered and here is the ferrite bar antenna being pretuned, This was a challenge to tune, instead of breaking out the RF injector and a scope, I used old fashon ways, listen time tune and calibrate.
I was able to listen to WOR New York, WBT Charlotte, KYW news from Philly PA and the best one of all was WFLA Tampa Bay Fl.. So Iam very happy.
Now here is the crasher part, this kit has a daughter board for replacing the IC audio amplifier to drive the little speaker, well it DID NOT work!!
I am thinking tits because I am using a really light 9v battery instead of an alkaline. IC works great, it will drive the speaker but its faint, but headphone/earpiece, Loud.!! (I know a lot of geeky nerdy words here.)

Oh in case you see the word Tits.. ITs not referring to breast.. Tits is a slang word for the leads on the back of the soldering side of the kit,, the parts creat tits where you solder the components down, I am thinking there is a weak point or a poor one on the amplifier board.
** It also means the short hands for this.

actually you are correct for transmitting antennas your formula would give you a 1/2 wave antenna's resonate frequency or length.
the same would apply for a receiver antenna too because i would be peaked tuned for the same frequency, but thats not practical because it would be hard to carry around almost 200 feet of wire for the am band, so you have a coil to shorten it physically, but electrically it would be the same length. Thats what the coil is on the ferrite rod, a coil of wire about 75 feet long or a 1/8 wave of the am bands tuning range. ;) I know geeky but its the technical way.
The best way is to think of a water hose thats 200 feet long, its easier to carry it coiled up than to drag it across the yard fully un rolled.

interesting, must have money to access a tower site lol, Saddly this puppy ish poor >.< But I am trying to get my generals ticket. I also want to get into PSK31 and other digital modes but again funding sucks lol.
I also looked into a QRP (I think thats what it is, low power HF radio] radio but well see. Right now I gotta work on getting my ticket though so I can use the frequencies.

You do have access to 10 meters.. and Six Both have good days and bad days,, I run qrp all the time. Love it because dxers want the flea power stations, becuase its about antenna nad patience, so yeah it can be a lot of fun,
I too do not have a tower, but I do have a local electric co op that will sell you all the telephone poles you want for .50 a foot you haul away.
There is a company called Lee that will install a pole and all your antennas on it for under a thousand, not bad considering thats everything. spikees tie in loops everything.

x.x your talkin to a wolf pup who is still saving for a radio that will let me access 10 and 6 meters [may as well buy a full hf rig in that case though] .50 a foot isnt bad, but just under 1000 to install it, sorry to much lol, I would rather rent the equipment and put it up myself. [cant be to hard right?]
yes but you find and rent a posting truck :P or find a friend who has one lol. either way, still outta my budget. Besides I have an interesting plan to run my radio when I get my license, I work on the boardwalk, so I plan to run a dipole between two lamp posts, and being I am on the shore line at night I should find some interesting contacts.
