I believe may is the strongest trainer now out of all the people in ash's universe

I've pretty much only watched whatever scattered episodes of the hoenn saga on ITV when it aired here, so I don't know the extended series lore

I think the thing with May was that her having contests was a monotony-breaker since it indirectly introduced secondary rivals for the show, Max is probably there just to squawk info about new Pokemon just so Ash wouldn't look less experienced in comparison. Look at the goals for Brock and Misty....they just wanted to be a Pokemon breeder and a water Pokemon master respectively, probably hard when breeding doesn't have an end and the fact that out of all of Misty's Pokemon, 2 are clones of each over and cannot emote (Staryu/mie), 2 can't fight on land (Goldeen/Horsea), 1 was a former Deus Ex Machina (Psyduck) that got replaced by the team Baby as his role (Togepi) and the odd land fighter here and there (Politoed, possibly Corsola) she apparently got more awesome in Chronicles.....but the airing was severely hampered, so logically she had Luvdisc/GYARADOS for a long time, even Togetic flew off.


If that Wasn't enough, May essentially became a sacrificial cow to Dawn in the Wallace cup episode after personally defeating Zoey and packing a bunch of evolved Pokemon, though Dawn lost to Iris....presumably because Contests were 2 games old by the time they fought, even Musicals barely got used, if at all.....wonder why Dawn even came to Unova besides possibly being nostalgic for Charizard's return...for him to do nothing during the Mewtwo movie.

Sorry for the outburst but ya, best to worst Pokegirls is probably: May, Misty, Dawn, Iris. Misty gets by being original, but Dawn is below Misty because Contests became mini-arcs that contained characters more genuinely interesting than herself, even Zoey got by. have to admire the different costumes in each contest though.

I don't really care about any of the animate series stuff, its pretty crap if you go back and watch it.

She was always one of my favorites too. Her personality and design are both very memorable.

I imagine it's partly BECAUSE she was naive. Though I'm still a bit confused why the anime made her as busty as it did, to the point where they shrank her chest when they brought her back for the next generation's episodes
