~8"x8". pencil.
Drew this as a way to get back into finishing a comic project featuring this character.
I was talking to Thomas_Blue recently and he asked me what projects I have going, and I realized that I don't; not seriously, anyway. Some of you may recall that this time last year I was working on a comic featuring a centaur and a mermaid. This was for a monster anthology that Egypt Urnash was pulling together.
I managed to get it mostly done, before winter came along and knocked everything over, as it does. But there's no reason not to finish it, as it was progressing nicely.
Also, there is no better time than autumn in New England to look outside the window for environment solutions. And to pull out the Calvin & Hobbes for inspiration on how to render a perpetual fall season. And Milo Manara's Indian Summer. And Remington paintings. This is the current set of mental reference material I am using for inspiration for the centaur's side of things.
Working on a similar image of the mermaid, and I'm looking at Winslow Homer's watercolors of marine settings, and Hopper's seaside watercolors, and James Jean, and Amano. This stuff might not all filter into the finals, but it's evocative of what I want and having it around as I work is useful, to make something craggy and atlantic. The yankee sea setting is beautiful, to me.
So much blah and text! This is to make sure I do it; you will see :)

Well.
I like it x3
I really like your 'inspiration artists' so it'll be interesting to see how that inspiration manifests in your work. Comics are super intimidating to me! I like reading them, but I curl in a ball and cry whenever I get a wild hair and think about writing/drawing/working in any way with them lol.
