This was my costume whilst working on a History Channel filming today. The portrayal was of a Reichswehr Sargent in Munich during the 1923 "Munich Beer Hall Putsch" .
Geeze don't I look like a mean old geeze? thats why I was selected.
And No, you don't need to make references to Sgt. Schultz... I'm already aware of tha, LOL!
I Know NNNotheeeeeng!!!

I did consultation for a subject matter and acting once with a local indie filmaker. I was not an extra, but I also was not a star, by any means. Director and I chatted a lot on what was happening and why as professionals, well, he was a pro, I was the source. Except in the course of doing the job from both ends, it was magnetic to true extras how close the director and I was. I would slip off for a smoke break on a bus stop for example, and one would approach asking me how I got so close to the director, telling me how they were versitile, and to put in a good word for them... You were hired to be a pax on a bus for 12 hours.... So you ride in a seat good for long trips.. what do you want me to endorse? Its an indie documentary of sorts - Hollywood is not going to be calling.
It was a trip for sure.

Aw scheisse, now don't come down on me for the farbity... This was for a History Channel media entertainment thing. I arrived on set dressed in proper 30's brit civilian, and was then recruited to be a Reichswehr Hauptmann ('cept the HC people had no idea what a hauptmann was). Hell, they equipped my landsers with .303 SMLE's fer crissake... And me with a plastic luger. I didnt care, 'coz the money was just as good. The TV series tho was (1 outta 5 forks) good.
I'm not dumping on you; I'm dumping on the History Channel; you'd think that they would have made some effort to make the costumes at least grossly accurate; it's not as if there wasn't a ton of source material -- or, if they bothered, enough costumes to kit everyone out accurately. It's as if the production companies just half-ass things because they expect the viewers to know less about it than they do.
