I _think_ they actually floated it in '38 or '39, but it was never finished and 'activated'...I don't remember if that was simply due to lack of available steel and industrial capability, or because Allied bombers conveniently 'helped' load munitions onto it...From high altitude.

Actually it was self sunk 1945 at an build-progress of about 85% .

Launched in 1938.
Fitting abandoned in 1943 at a state of 95% completion.
Used as a barge by the Soviets, then sunk for target practice in 1947.

But the soviets get this ship up again 1947 and study it , in this way you can say it was besides the first German carrier the first soviet too . But then the soviet sunk it in the same year to see which way they can sunk such a ship on the best way .

And there are two Double 150mm L55 guns on each side on the heck . On the front where the same again , because of that this ship could handle so many planes like other carriers .

Against ground targets was the Ju 87 very effective why not if they are launched from a carrier .

And btw ever heard from the soviet Battleship Marat ? If the water has been deeper that ship were never used again .
