Well....i dunno...my ref sheet i got from KYMA! was $120 http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6875681/
And i mean...its Kyma!
Although...it was 1 and a bit years ago...i think she charges like $200 now
so price inflation? I dunno
your Complex Shading and background is $100. Thats around the price very "well known artists" charge.
I'm someone who gets commissions off people quite alot. and for your current stature, ur prices are a bit up there.
As a good friend tho I'm just being upfront with ya about what i think, just take it as advice.
You have every right to do what you feel is correct for YOU! and dont think I'm saying your wrong! BAD WOLGER!
I know well of the fact you have invested alot of time and effort to get your art to its current quality, which is unreal!. I have loved watching you grow as an artist. So maybe thats why.
But i do think that artists take their stature into account when pricing commissions.
I see it as a ladder and i would put you in Teir 2.
Teir 1: Arist starting off would request $5 or none at all if they are passionate for drawing, most times its artists perfecting their skills, wanting to improve others they just do it to fill time.
Teir 2: Well accomplished (known well locally) artist charges $25 - $40 on average for something of their best quality
Teir 3: Artist Watched by 1000+, known quite well, Charges $50 - $75 for their best art.
Teir 4: Artist very well known within the community, has more than 200,000 pageviews. Now depending on the artist, they charge anywhere from $100 - $200 for their best. (Artists like
Kyma and
Ifus)
Teir 5: Artist Known by everyone! People would literally throw money at them for a picture they are that popular. Comissioners know that the art they get comissioned will be seen by thousands of people. Artists like this usually charge $300+ or mostly hold YCH Auctions that get an obsene amount. sometimes up to $600 (Artists like
RedRusker and
fasttrack37 )
Teir 6: An artists that no longer or rarely takes commissions. Their art seems priceless and they draw for companies or make comics. These artists have 1,000,000 + views and have been around the community for years (Artists like
Blotch,
ZEN,
Narse or
Zaush)

For a friend, you are sure being pretty rude dude :P
An artist should never charge due to “status and rank”, that’s just a load of crock. If people are willing to pay for their hard work and skill (which both are evident here), that is what should be helping them decide on what to charge....not some popularity rank system (??).
Works like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11580261/ Are definitely worth what he is charging. Hec, I would say it is worth a bit more.
FYI, I charge around what he has offered above for those sorts of art types, perhaps more actually depending on the commission. I have not based this on “popularity” I don’t even care if I am or not. I charge based on time and effort spent on creating an artwork the client will be happy with. As should most people.
Sorry if this came across as blunt, but I am really tired of artists, especially ones still unsure of what to charge for their efforts. Being bullied into underselling themselves just because people don’t think they are E-famous enough yet.
If there are people wanting to support said artist, that is all that should matter. If there isn’t, the artist will learn from this and adjust their pricing accordingly.

This is just the way i see it as a commissioner, and i agree with you! But it is a method used quite alot.
As I'm not an artist myself, i dont know many other methods other methods.
Thats why i mentioned Mikio has every right to do as he feels.
I'm horrible at explaining things too. I definitely was not trying to be rude...no way lol. maybe i needed to better context what i wrote. And maybe add a few more things...but i decided I'd wrote enough to make me look like a moron.

Your prices are reasonable and fair! Considering the time effort and skill displayed, your prices are exactly what I’d expect to see (even perhaps a tad low!). If you were to charge any less considering your skill, I would be happy to inform you that I feel you were underselling yourself. :)
