I love the purity of the few-color illustrations...and I mean this with the highest of compliments, but I get a feeling on the scope of "Maus" when I viewed this comic.

i definately modeled the creatures after maus. originally i wanted something sort of devilish or humanoid, but i realized the way my head was, it'd be so much easier to just draw a cone with some suggestions of ears or horns ala maus.

Something so simple can often be used to convey so much! Which is why "Maus" is something that endures even now. You did great on this.

Any graphic novel that gets chosen in a college course is awesome. I know it always goes on our Library's display when we do Holocaust education/programs. We have quite a few copies of it, too...so I applaud my Library for doing that.

i tried reading some other holocaust related comic that was reccomended to me called 'resistance' and it was just...really not good. i mean the art was okay, but the pacing and dialogue and story in general were just so zzzzzzzzzzzz

Yeah...I'd be willing to be we have that too. I know they tried hard to build a Holocaust multi-media collection just for the programs.

Great work. I enjoyed the story. It's so powerful and simple.

I liked how you let the scene speak for itself and didn't use mush dialogue.

i originally had a lot of dialogue going through my mind for it, but in the end it just seemed like the images said enough.

They do a great job of conveying the theme and emotions.

I'm sure I could send one-panel comics of my own every week to The New Yorker for the rest of my life and they wouldn't make it past the recycle bin.

I'm not a good artist, but I have novel ideas from time to time. I suppose it's all about connections.

standards for new yorker cartoons are rediculously anal though. i remember reading them once and being like man wtf

I dunno---to me it seems like their standard for the art is that it can look sketchy as hell, but there still has to be correct perspective and proportion, and it's all right if the characters are stick figures.

But the joke concept has to be dry-as-hell, lame-as-hell, or over-the-top slapstick. Me, I can lol at the first and third types. But what do I know? I could probably hold my own in a conversation with New York Sophisticates except they wouldn't talk to me because of my anti-fashion garb and west coast accent.
