Well, it's like apples and oranges, ain't it? While both are optimistic views of the space-faring future (And were both led into darkness by the mishandling of their universes over the extension of their life-spans), one focuses on the mythic themes of good versus evil, and utilizes time-old archetypes with positively greek theme of tragedy, all merely coloured in aesthetic theme by the science-fiction backdrop, while the other utilizes the future as a hypothetical environment capable of setting up scenarios where philosophical questions can be asked and answered in a far more ambiguous, and intellectual fashion; which is to say, one is science fiction for the heart, and one is science fiction for the mind!
...though obviously star trek's totes better.

Even when you give a reasoned argument, things just boil down to Star Trek being better, even if it was responsible for the creation of many cliches in science fiction works.
