A small fanart for the two main characters of the North Korean furry anime series " Squirrel and Hedgehog "
An action - spy series with a long history, the last episodes of the second season are quiet well animated while the previous cartoons are old.
Geumsaegi (the squirrel) is the main character, he's an agent of Flower Hill and infiltrated among their enemies posing as a traitor, with the aim to weak internally the foes of Flower Hill (a coalition of Squirrels, Hedgehogs, ducks and others) first against Weasels and Mouses and now against Wolves too.
Of course it's a series with lots of direct metaphors, with Flower Hill representing the DPRK (North Korea), Weasels (expecially during the second series) resemble a bit the Japaneses while Wolves are Americans and the servile Mouses are of course the South Korean.
Moolmangcho (the mouse) is the only smart mouse of the series, actually he survive the most of the Geumsaegi's enemies and he's the first to put in doubt the identity of the squirrel, ever plotting to kill him or demonstrate his true identity.
(he has no tail because was cut during a fight)
The kill ration it's amazing XD In the whole series if i'm right are killed/badly wounded just 3 characters of Flower Hill... and possibly 3000 (random number) of their enemies XD
This fanart is set for the new episodes, with the most cool feature of the characters, expecially Moolmangcho with the black jacket and the armband has a very "fascist" look.
Here the series if you're curious: (some episodes are quiet crude actually, and the translated ones show an incredible amount of insults and bad words XD)

Also here there is an episode of a well done North Korea anime series that can be appreciated also by their South Korean cousins (being focused on medieval Korea) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-kd0FyA4xw
(there is also some animal scenes with talks about animal characters ^^)
And i may add that i found a pretty animated movie ever done by 25th April studious focused on a dog ^^

A little gem for fans of animal stories
Comments and opinions are extremely welcome ^^

Thank you! and awasome gallery xD I will spread comments there... i'm not a huge fan of MxM but hell... here is nice xD
I love Squirrel and Hedgehog and also generally speaking the North Korean animation, you saw the links? They've actually made some other nice series... that medieval one it's by style better then a number of other chinese animation, and that animated cartoon with dogs it's nice...

I found out about Squirrels and Hedgehogs when going through random videos on Youtube, it was back when only episode 27 was on Youtube. Then it was DPRKsquirrels who found most of the eps and uploaded them. I slowly watched each of them and became even more intrigued with the mind set and animation of North Korea. It's got a very different style of animation from what I've seen before.. at first I thought it moved too funny but I got used it and now I think it's very unique. xD
Heheh ok... however i suggest you to check the links i've put under the fanart, there are other nice animations done by northkorean.
And there are others i've not listed too... some of the most modern series done for italian tv or french tv ("Last of Mohicans" for italian, and "Corto Maltese" for french) are close to be high-quality animation.. expecially the last one.
But they were basically works on commissions: no involvment in story and text, just drawing.
Still about their animation, they've done that other furry series (The cleaver raccoon dog) that's more focused on scientific/social/scholastics teaching

I actually found this series existed when i saw a video called "10 days in north korea" the Cartoon is beautifully animated no matter if its the origional 1977 Cartoons, The middle of the series which looks to be mid 80s and the new series which aired in the 2000s! this DPRK Toon is better then most of the stuff ive seen in the US
Well.. they follow an own style, but they created scores of series and even animated movies.
(a good quality one with humans (but sometimes animals talking among themselves) is the medieval one "Young Warriors of Koguryo", that's on level of the good chinese "anime")
Not to mention that it's years they make co-works for european tv (especially for italy and france), some cool series as the Last of Mohicans or Ulysses all bear the mark "SEK studios" in the credits, and it has their style.

Of course xD As i said they're possibly one of the most prolific production studios of the world by sheer number of cartoons produced.
An interesting (and poorly reported one) is the "Clever Racoon Dog" series: basically it has cute furry animals like "Squirrels and Hedgehogs", but it's not on military and warfare.
It's basically an ongoing series of episodes each about a specific scientific or social or behavior teaching, or regarding sports and competitions or general situations.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ.....6Q6rdL_GEfUm6Q
There are three main protagonists: a racoon-dog (i've yet to understand the gender), a male bear and a female cat.
I've only watched little pieces here and there, but i've yet also to find if there is some implied romance at least between the bear and the cat xD
Concerning that (long) animated movie with animal protagonist (in similar way of other Disney cartoons), that's it:

Also here i lacked to understand the gender of the other (brown) dog and his/her relationships with the mother and the cub.
It's particular also because it show a korean as main villain, while all (except one) of the not-korean arabs travellers are basically positive figures (especially the captain)
Finally here an episode of Young Warriors of Koguryo

Eh the mouse isn't technically mirroring the Americans but the SouthKoreans (and quite interesting he's the most long-lasting and cunning villain) plus while the flag as i draw was never showed, the armband and the black jacket he dress at one point are quite fascist-like style xd
