Thanks for this adorable sketch at RF2013 Ryusuke! You did such a great job on the pose, the angle, the lovely feet, and especially that cute facial expression of his! It's amazing how well you were able to turn the verbal description into visual artwork so effectively!
Sabre is a dragon: creatures with natural strength, might, and a very powerful and intimidating build. While not overly muscular, Sabre is no weakling either. I wanted to prove that his physique wasn't all just genetics, and required some good old fashioned hard work as well! Having him strength training by doing pushups and exercising sounded like a cute idea, and having him discover that someone was watching him sounded even cuter!
I love his very confused and unsure facial expression! This was exactly the look I was going for. His face looks a bit strained, as if he's been doing quite a few pushups already by the time he's discovered his secret admirer. His expression looks so cute, because it looks like he isn't even sure himself whether he should be angry/annoyed or embarrassed/flattered. It's kind of a "would you mind?" look.
The position of his shoulders, arms, and paws looks really good here! It seems like it may have been pretty challenging, especially with the foreshorting of his arm muscles, but it looks very natural and balanced! Sabre's also got good posture in the pushup itself. His back is as straight as a board, and his butt isn't up too high or is sinking too low. I also like how his wings curl around him on both sides, and how his tail just curves up with his tailspade pointing at the ceiling. All these extra limbs just add to the weight he has to push up against, hehe.
The delightful feet get a paragraph all to themselves! The pushup exercise was selected on purpose because of how one must balance up high on the toes with flexed feet in order to do it properly. This specific angle highlights the soles as a major focal point in the picture, and still allows the rest of his body to be clearly seen. I love how soft and squishy you represented his soles, with his padding clearly visible, and the way they flex. It's just really cute to see a dragon up high on the balls of his feet like that. What's also interesting is how Sabre looks much more anthro with plantigrade feet here and straight legs. I love the look of plantigrade feet, but digitigrade legs look really cool too, so I'm always torn between the two looks!
Thanks again for this Ryu! It's so cute! ^.=.^
