After a very long (and sometimes difficult life) my ferret Strudel passed away on the first. Despite getting adrenal disease two years ago, she was happy and silly until the end. She the was last pet my family got me before my Dad passed away and everyone split up. For a long time, she was the only family I felt like I had. She stayed with me through the worst and the best of times. She was loving and sweet and perfect proof to the fact that ferrets are amazing.
I like to think that she tickled Death for quite some time. He laughed so much that he let her stay as long as he could.
This was "my child of Loki" "my furry snake dog"...Her name was Strudel and she was the funniest and most loving Ferret I will ever know.
(This photo is from when I dropped her off with her sitter. I took the bedding out while we traveled in the car.)

Sounds like she had a good life an a loving friend in you.
I'm sure that being with you in her last 2 years helped her survive for so long — ferrets are far more social than their wild polecat relatives, so the presence of familiar company would have had a positive effect on her state of mind.
