Bitter Sweet Acceptance -Chapter 17
Rune and Rosey were on the spacecraft sipping some coffee and have a conversation. Aura and Bass were sharing the same crib in the nursery room with the other babies. Ms. Applebottom quietly tip toed into the room to take a peek at her daughter. To her surprise, she was not only awake. She was looking right at her as she had entered.
Her mother wasn't sure whether to small or to be nervous. Little Applebottom just stared back with a blank expression. Her mother could not tell what she was thinking. She thought it would be best to leave. As she turned around, she heard creaking from the crib.
Ms. Applebottom gasped as she saw her trying to climb over the bars. Even if she was far from the top, the very thought of her falling on the floor made her heart stop. She raised her out of the crib and escorted her out. Other toddlers and babies were already awake. She took Aura into her office where they choice talk alone.
Her mom opened her mouth to give her yet another apology until Aura raised her tiny paw to stop her.
"I know. I'm sowwy," she spoke.
. Applebottom tilted her head in confusion.
"I was out of line," she little cub added. "But, you shouldn't be the one apologizing. I should."
"We bof did something we aren't pwoud of, mommy."
She nodded in agreement.
"I know. I was out of line with making a decision without your permission. It was wrong of me and selfish. You didn't even know about this community had existed until you were brought into it, darling," her mother spoke to her.
"I should have asked fow more infowmation before cwying," Aura responded with her ears drawn back,"Bass told me evewyfing. These people desewve a second chance at wife."
"Wife."
"Wife, wife!"
"Oh! Life."
"Yes. A-and if I knew that I would have understood bettew."
They exchanged sympathy glances. There was less tension in the air, now.
"Is there anything I can do to make you feel better, pumpkin?"
"Weww...I have an suggestion."
"And what would that be?"
"I stiww want my apawtment."
"Hmmm...how about I have the community arrange a house for you instead?"
"R-reawwy?!"
"Uh--huh. You can have your own house. I mean, you'll have to share it with Rune, but it's the least I can do."
Aura pondered over that thought for a minute or two. The little husky nodded.
"You have a deaw, mommy."
They shook hands.
"It was nice doing business wif you, my dear."
After all these years, she almost forgot how kind and understanding her own daughter was. Aura used her mother's pink blouse sleeve as support to stand up. Ms. Applebottom leaned over.
Aura kissed her cheek.
"I still wove you, mommy. Even if you don't use half of yoo bwain."
She laughed in response,"Okay, you little munchkin. We still have lots of work to do. So, let's get you in for a bath."
She scooped her up and headed for the door.
"Okay, momm-...WHAT?!" Aura squirmed in protest.
