I have always had a fascination with city alleys. When I go to any of the cities where AnthroCon is held, you can find me during the day searching out “interesting” alleys with my camera. Why? I’m not sure. Probably something to do with something that happened in one of my previous lives.
I used two pics from my personal collection of photographs for reference in creating this pic. I worked on and off with this pic for four-and-a-half months, since alleys, when properly done, are a lot more complex than at first sight -- but all told, this was a fun pic to do. Enjoy.
Other of my Alley Folks pictures are:

*laughs in what passes for RL* Excellent! That’s one of the viewer reactions that I had hoped for! Muwhahahahah!
No, but seriously, that reflective quality of cat (and wolf) eyes is something that I haven’t seen touched on in furry art enough. And yeah, it can be sort of creepy.

Cities can be filled with towering buildings of glass and shining steel that are so much like monuments to their inhabitant’s goals and aspirations.
Alleys tend to show us what the true realities of those cities are. Most finds from archeological sites come from stuff that the inhabitants of those long forgotten cities threw out or piled in their alleys.

It is always nice for me to know that my artwork connects with something that is meaningful to my watchers.
Old or odd-shaped buildings fascinate me as well. There is a triangular-shaped building in Pittsberg, near the con hotel, that I have circled around many many times since it reminds me of where a 1940’s-style private detective would have his run-down office.
Maybe next time you and I are going to attend AC at the same time we can do a “city safari” together; checking out alleys and old buildings.

<nods> Lights and shadows help to give depth and mood to a picture. His glowing eyes were a happenstance as I was bringing him out of the darkness … and realized that all cats have those reflective eyes in the darkness.
Oh yes, open spaces, like fields and meadows are lovely, but like History itself, dark complex places filled with the “footprints” of peoples and events past draw the imagination.
