Chapter 10
Back at the smash mansion, Toon Link, Pikachu, Ness and Lucas were playing with some of the toys in Ness’s room when Toon Link suddenly shivered.
“Whoa, that was weird,” Toon Link said, rubbing his arms and looking around for any possible draft sources.
“What’s wrong?” Ness asked, looking up.
“Pika?” Pikachu added, head tilted questioningly.
“I just felt strange there for a second,” Toon Link answered. “Like some sort of disturbance…”
“Hmm, now that you mention it,” Ness started. “Something doesn’t feel right…”
“I’ve been feeling this strange dread since those guys left,” Lucas added meekly. Ness turned to Lucas, confused. Toon Link shared his expression.
“What? Who left?” Ness asked.
“Zelda, Roy, Ike, Lucario, and some of the others…” Lucas answered quietly. “They left just the other day.”
“Pika…” Pikachu pondered, contemplating.
“Hmm,” started Toon Link. “I wouldn’t know where they were going, but something might be wrong with them. You don’t think they’re in trouble, do you?” His expression became more worried. The others were silent, sharing similar feelings.
“Hold on a sec,” Ness said, closing his eyes, concentrating. A grimace grew on his face as the seconds went on while he sat there. His eyes then opened suddenly, filled with worry. “Zelda’s in trouble.” The other three gasped.
Ness then jumped up “C’mon, we’ve gotta do something.”
“Like what?” Lucas asked sadly. “How are we going to get to where they are?”
“Where are they, exactly?” Toon Link asked.
“They’re in subspace,” Lucas answered. “It’s not a pleasant place.” Ness and Pikachu shook their heads slowly in agreement. “But I don’t know how we can get there.” Ness thought hard for a moment before he got an idea.
“Wait a second,” he said, “Ganondorf and Bowser have experience with subspace, maybe we can ask them.”
“What?” Lucas cried, starting to shake. “Are you sure we should?
“I don’t know about it either,” Toon Link noted, agreeing with Lucas. “They’re not exactly the friendliest people in the mansion, and I don’t think they’d want to help us out.”
“I know they’re mean,” Ness said. “But they’re the only sources we have. We’d might as well give it a try.” The others were hesitant before nodding in consent and leaving the room with him. The toys were left forgotten on the floor.
………………
Mewtwo’s mind was swimming in sheer white light. He stumbled around through the bright, but gentle, light that seemed to have no source, but rather emanated from all around him.
“Strange,” he said aloud. “Have I regained control of my body?” His mind then grew anxious. “And where’s Zelda? Is she okay?” He looked around, having no sense of depth at all due to the uniform light around him. “And what is this, peace, that I feel?”
He then heard a faint, whispering voice echo about him. Nearly imperceptible at first, but soon gained clarity.
“Mewtwo…” the voice sounded again, barely audible. The voice sounded, feminine.
“Who is there?” Mewtwo asked calmly, looking around for where the voice was coming from.
“Mewtwo…” the voice gaining slightly.
“Zelda?” Mewtwo asked sadly. “Is that you?”
“Mewtwo…” the voice echoed again, louder.
“Zelda?” Mewtwo asked again, with more strength.
“…no…” the voice said. The voice sounded somewhat familiar, but not, at the same time.
“Who is this?” Mewtwo asked quietly.
“Turn around…” the voice whispered. He turned and saw a figure, dressed in white. It was a young lady, possibly no older than 20. Her teal hair gleamed in the light, and her sapphire eyes showed a gentle care of the purity of innocence. He couldn’t hold her gaze. “It has been a while.” Her voice sounded pure and angelic.
“I-I’m sorry,” Mewtwo stuttered. “I don’t think we’ve met before.”
“We’ve met,” she assured him, standing her ground. “You, don’t remember?” Mewtwo shook his head guiltily. “I see…”
“Who are you?” Mewtwo asked again. She was silent. Mewtwo blinked and found himself back in subspace. The crater was nowhere in sight, and he couldn’t control his body anymore. He was floating towards some unknown destination against his own will. Despite any amounts of will he mustered, his body continued to go.
“Who was that girl?” he thought to himself. He then looked down guiltily. “I’m sorry, Zelda.”
…………….
Roy was the first to reach the crater.
“Guys, over here,” He called out breathlessly, motioning to them. They reached the rim of the crater and gazed on in awe.
“The force to do this kind of damage to this ground must have been massive,” said Snake, wiping the sweat from his brow. “I’d be surprised if Mewtwo managed to walk away from this.” The others then jumped into the crater and began to search the area and remains of the vehicle.
“Okay,” Ike said, checking the emergency supplies in the vehicle front. “We’ve got supplies now.”
“Guys,” Roy called out again. “Zelda’s over here.” The others stopped what they were doing and came over.
