So, this was floating around my hard drive and I honestly forgot to post it until now. I recieved it as a prize for winning the last writing contest over at http://eatatau.smackjeeves.com/ but I was working on my own more mediocre artwork of the character at the time, so I held off on posting it so as to not overshadow... myself. o.o
So, enough rambling. Here we have Elsy, who as always, has a very long and complicated alien name, but let's call her Elsy for convenience's sake.
This is a piece I'm very fond of. Darius Crane (aka DarkDarius) is the artist and writer for the popular Warhammer 40k Tau (Elsy's species) themed webcomic linked above ^ and for years, his designs and misadventures inspired my own character design, so to see my concept brought to life by Darius himself was really just an amazing experience.
Introduction, for those unfammiliar with the character. If you don't care and just want to look at the art and see her as some hot-blue-alien-babe, go right ahead. But if you're curious, read on.
1. Elsy is a Tau, from Warhammer 40,000, a tabletop wargame produced by british gaming company Games Workshop. The Tau are an intersteller multi-species empire whose goal is to unite the warring factions and races of the galaxy under a single shared purpose; the greater good. Their sole belief and theology that defines them as a species, that the selflessness of individuals can be of great benefit to others. (Imagine an entire species built around the phrase "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" that should give you an idea of what they're about)
2. Her full name is Por'O Elsy'eir, Doran'ro Elro. (Translation: Water Caste Ambassador Elsy'eir, calm-minded speaker.)
3. She is named after a star system in the 2nd colonial expansion of the Tau Empire, where she was born. Those from that system are reknowned for their creativity, in regards to art, poetry and philosphy.
4. She is 26 in her species' calendar (21 human years)
5. Elsy is somewhat "abnormal" by Tau standards, as her parents are of two seperate castes. The castes of her species vary to the point of being almost sub-species of their own, as inter-breeding is strictly forbidden. Naturally, Elsy keeps this a secret, but it doesn't hide her physical differences, such as her longer and crimson red hair, more 'human' like eyes and curving figure.
6. She was once a soldier in the empire's millitary arm, but was honourably discharged for psychological reasons, after becoming somewhat mentally shaken by a number of battles and missions. She is now a diplomatic emmisary. Her duty is to coduct meetings with those of other races, resolve political disputes, act as a peaceful messenger / go-between for conflicting parties or groups.
Misc. Trivia:
-The object she is sitting on is a Heavy Gun Drone: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/...../gundrones.jpg which she has heavily modified in her spare time with smart-missile pods which fire lock-on anti-personell RPG's. Luckily she rarely needs to use them, and mostly uses the drone for recording data and keeping her shedule. (Although despite her humble demeanor and general shy-ness, her very slight vanity has lead her to reprogram the drone. It now refers to her as "Mistress Elsy" rather than "Ambassador" whenever it speaks. She seems to like that, for some strange reason...)
2. Her uniform is based on a cosplay design from deviantART. The canon water-caste uniform is too.... kimono-esque, so I went for something more stylish and not to mention practical.
3. Tau Anatomy various from humans in the following ways:
-Blue Skin *Duh*
-only 3 fingers & 1 thumb on each hand
-Hooved feet & inverted knee-joints on the legs, simmilar to an equine bone structure (It doesn't show here very well, but take my word for it)
-No nose
-a "Y" shaped forehead skin pigmentation on females (Males get a " | " line shaped mark)
That's all really.
More art yet to come, just felt like posting this old thing to occupy my time at 2am.
Legal jargon:
-Tau, Tau Empire & Gun Drone (C) Games Workshop
-Artwork & Eatatau webcomic (C) Darius "DarkDarius" Crane.
-Elsy Character (C) Me~
